Episode Summary

Camels and Bison
Two exotic animals that aren't supposed to be in California are the subject of this episode. First, on Catalina Island, Huell searches for the descendants of 14 buffalo that were brought to the island in 1924 for a silent movie. Next, Huell visits the Ft. Tejon State Historic Park. While there, he looks for camels used by the U.S. Army in the 1850's. The army was convinced that the animals would increase their transport ability across the desert. "The Great Camel Experiment" marks a unique moment in California military history.moreless
