  • Gets better/more serious in some areas, but falls back down to earth in others.

Out of the episodes so far, this is by far the least funniest. Although there were a couple of chuckle moments, there wasn't really a single laugh out loud part whereas the first three episodes had them being churned out every minute. Despite that, this episode takes a different direction; it gets a bit more serious and unfortunately for you boobie lovers, there are none to be found aside from the recap in the beginning. A great chunk of this episode, besides Charlie's naughty scenes with his assistant, are pure character development. Hank is truly one of the most unique main characters in any TV show; a not so bad guy with immoral thoughts but some good desires. He doesn't go with the crowd, but against it. Even with the great character development, it isn't enough to cover the large gap that the lack of comedy covers.
  • Karen still have feelings for Hank?

It kinda seems to me that Karen still have some feelings for Hanks, even though she seems to deny it herself. And when she 's making a scene with the spilling of the drink and the other man, Hank takes care of him! Just punching him down like that, because of a little argument between the man and Karen. It's just so typically Hanks personality. So protective and macho, but still he shows the greatest of love for his daughter, and gives her even a mobile phone. He is such a sucker.... lol... that is why we like him I guess;)
  • Meredith convinces Hank to escort her to an environmental fundraiser. Coincidentally Bill and Karen are at the same event, where Karen makes a scene, and Hank runs into Dani and Charlie while they are in his office.

where do I start. Right from the beginning the one liners were spot on, Becca"if its a date ok but a casual link up". No actual sex which was surprising, but the usual inuendos were there. Husband actually is starting to like the programme. The actors are beginning to jel and the action and acting in the sex scenes that do occur are natural, if you can say that. This episode was one of the best so far, and since I'm watching from Britain its only my fourth. The British reviews have been poor but I give it the thimbs up.
  • The best episode so far?

It kind of tricks me into thinking... Why I think this episode may be the best centred of the entire show so far and still I don't give it a better rating than the one I gave to the pilot? Truthly, I have not a clue. The thing is, this episode is different of the rest of the series, making it even boring in some parts and really out of character most of the time. Nonetheless, it gives us a lot of character development and ideas of what may be to come in Hank/Meredith and Hanrk/Karen's relationships. The best part, though, is the fact that there isn't a single sex, nudity scene, making me wonder if it really come out of the woods and developed into something beyond the cliche.

    Stay tuned! I will.

After watching all four episodes straight, I can't wait until the next one. The character of Hank continues to develop, as more details are revealed for us to get a grasp on who he truly is. Right now, he feels clouded in mystery, which in turn adds to the atmosphere generated by this show. The show is still taking its baby steps, but it hasn't missed one and fell yet. The episode after has so far felt more satisfying than its prior entry. If the writing stays at this level, I don't see why this show can't become a bigger hit. Very witty, funny, and simply brilliant.
  • not really a jerk, not really a knight in shinning armor...

So Hank really is a good guy under it all. He tried to help the new girl in his life get over the married man she had been sleeping with for five years by kissing her in front of him. And he made a comment to a girl he was talking to about his Viagra use. He punched out a man who called his wife a c-word. He bought his daughter a cell so she could keep in touch with him more. He convinced his agent that an affair with his secretary is not a good idea. He held the hair back of the woman he is kinda seeing even though he heard that she said he was a loser that she was using for sex. He really is a good guy underneath it all.
  • A different side to hank, keeps the episode fresh and the series continues to be brilliant.

4 episodes in and Californication continues to an absolute joy to watch, especially this episode. A slight change in Hank in this episode as he became less of a dick to some and a little more sensitive to others. However thankfully it wasn't a complete change as his childish quips and smart ass observations remained. Its nice to see Hank being the thoughtful dad, then into the flirty guy, then into a good friend and then into a protector. Its also good news to hear that a second season has already been comissioned for the show. I hope for the remained of this season at least the writing/acting and directing is on par with the first four episodes.
  • Hank's character continues to unfold more and more but in a bit unsatisfying way. He's getting softer, becoming "the knight in shiny armour" like someone mentioned and that's killing his character for me.

Californication is about Hank. The cast is fine, Kathy Christopherson is smoking hot, but the reason for about 85-90% of the watchers to be.. erm, watching, is Hank. Why do we like Hank? He's sarcastic, hooks up with random one-night-chicks, acts disrespectful and is proud of that. What do we see in this episode - he's a loving and caring guy (even if he loves two women at the same time), he's more jaunty, not so ironic-sarcastic and has given up hooking up with random chicks (for now). Hank is growing as a person, but is devolving as a watchable character. Still entertaining but going the wrong way. After a mind-blowing pilot and episode 2, the show is slowing down the speed.
  • A lot of loathing and not much fear at the fundraiser. A typical day for Hank Moody.

Hank's character continues to unfold and entertain. He's quite the Prince in Shining Armour, if you ignore the harem, bartender, and permanent chip on his shoulder. The tender moments with his daughter continue to give him a well-developed softer-side. While his disfunctional human-interactions at the fundraiser continue to give us the dark comedic laughs we all tune in for.

My only complaint about the show is the character of Hank's ex, Karen. She's a great, strong, witty, intelligent woman. I buy that. What I don't buy is her chosing to be with a spineless, humourless, staight-man like Bill. Understandably, she doesn't want to be with Hank anymore. But, a strong woman like her can tell when a guy is wrong for her. And Bill is clearly wrong for her.
  • Hank goes to a fundraiser with the new girlfriend and has quite a few altercations.

I think this was a really great episode. I think the most important thing about this show that makes it so great for me is that while Hank seems like quite the cad on the surface, he also has some really great qualities that make him a truly likable characater. He really cares so much about his daughter that it makes him a really great guy who does some bad things instead of the other way around. The scene at the end where he puts his daughter to sleep was quite beautiful. I also loved that he fought for Karen's honor when her stupid fiance would not. I am really excited to see where they keep the story line going and also hope that they continue the high quality of the show.
