I hate these short seasons..we're already half way through..

but no one is talking about it at all?

I don't know how I feel about the time jump.. I guess it's somewhat necessary to help move the story along without dragging it out...

I'm feeling a slight lack of focus in the story. The stories have been fairly full and interesting each week, but there doesn't seem to be as much hank stuff..

he's gotten in trouble as one could expect, but his trouble is not really of his own doing.

It is definitely odd, normally you'd expect reviews and topics about the show's new season by now.

By the way, personally I never thought hank getting into problems was his own doing.

I think the lack of discussion stems from the fact that people would be discussing the same things. Every episode plays out almost identically, and once the new character smell wears off (for me around the time the Mia thing swung back around), it got old.

Season starts Hank is either up or down.

If up, series of unfortunate events happen that bring him one or more rungs down.

If down, he goes up seemingly (professor, starts writing again, etc.) before...

Karen or Becca get mad at him before or after accepting him for who he is before or after stumbling into a convenient loose end (Mia/stripper/drunken misstep).

Episode ends on a low note with one of the two aforementioned characters rocking his world to the core leading him to do something else seemingly harmless that will come up again.

Next episode starts with no attention paid to the previous episode's emotional gutting in any substantial way until the explosive finale.

Mix, match, repeat. Vicious circle is only entertaining for so long. See Lost.

I'm interested to see how many people watch it for completion sake as opposed to genuine entertainment. I know I'm

some stuff is his fault, like sleeping with most of the women he slept with and stuff like that.

In this season though there isn't as much as that. He's screwing himself now, but in other ways. Covering for Bates is going to cost him

I disagree. The women he sleeps with "want" to sleep with him and as a man you naturally sleep with women like that. I don't see anything wrong in that. Who wouldn't have done it?

The only new and funny thing in this season, as I see it, is the mocking Afro-Americans, like Samurai Apocalypse or those two dudes who started to weep at a song and then accidentally shot one another. I am afraid this season is just mediocre and will remain such. I used to love Californication, but the script writers seem to have run out of new ideas. One more thing that gets on my nerves this season is the cursing and searing by Hanks ex. Perhaps I missed it in the previous seasons, but I find it really annoying. She's such a beautiful woman and she fouls herself with an F-word every second sentence. Gross.

You've just described 99% of shows. The great thing about Californication is that the episodes are short, other ones not so much. I guess a mini-series already does what I'm looking for, so no point in writing how shows should have a finite timeline to 'em.
