Californication this week had laughs a-plenty as well as tackling a difficult and often embarrassing subject - that of finding unexplained lumps that may or may not be cancerous. The finding of said lump and consequent visit to the doctor got Hank thinking about when he and Karen were first togeher and discovered that she was pregnant. I thought these flashback sequences worked well and filled us in on a lot more of their earlier lives. Charlie was mostly absent though his scene with Daisy was nicely done. Hank and Lew's fight was hilarious. When the final result came from the doctor there was much relief - not cancer or syphilis!
Hank goes to the doctor to find out what is wrong with him. The episode bounces between present day and flashbacks of Karen and Hank when Karen is pregnant with Becca.
I put down as my rating for this ep average, but I don't mean that in a bad way. The quality of this season is so high that average is the only way to give it true justice.
Hank goes to the doctor to find out what is the problem in his nether region and the doctor gives him several options of what it could be. As he waits for the news flashbacks of Karen and him are shown where she finds out that she is pregnant with Becca. Both Hank and Karen wanted to be together but both of them know that Hank is a ticking time bomb, as seen in present day Hank's situation.
Meanwhile, Charlie is falling for Daisy and wants her out of the house and remove her from his life. But this is easier said than done as Charlie doesn't really want her gone. This is a story arc that we could all see coming, but as I despise Charlie's wife (she's just so annoying!) I'm kind of glad that it is happening. Meanwhile Karen admits to Hank that Ashby kissed her and this angers Hank to no end. He sees this as a betrayal as he din't sleep with Ashby's dream girl or even make a move. This is solved rather quickly as Ashby apologies and HAnk vents his anger through chasing Ashby around the apartment. I the end they are too much alike to be hating one another.
Once again this is a great ep that continues the consistency that the viewers have come to expect from Californication. I'm so glad that season 3 has already been greenlit.
This was a good episode. I can't say it was one of my favorites, but I really did love it. I really liked how they did the flashback scenes. It gave a whole new perspective to the Karen Hank relationship. I really like seeing them before the kid. I thought that it was funny to see that they had an unrequited love even back then. The Ashby fight with Hank was comical. They were crazy going at it then the phone rang and it was like poof it's over. I have always thought that it is funny how guys work that was, they fight its over. When girls get in a fight they normally hold on to it for a long time.
After a phenomenal episode of Dexter we get a Californication that was nearly as good. Witty lines from every character. I think I laughed at something Karen even said; can't remember the last time that happened.
As funny as the episode was I did not really care for the flashback scenes. This type of stuff is best reserved for laughtrack shows, not edgy, unique programs like Californication.
But the scene with Hank at the doctor's more than made up for it. I wish Charlie got more screen time and where is Mia? Hopefully she comes back next week, but overall another great season 2 episode of Californication.
