I feel like this could have been a good storyline earlier in the show's run with Hank working on the set of a TV show, but not for the final season. Some funny moments, but just proof the show has run its course.

Hank has to deal with the fallout from the bombshell of Karen learning that Levon is his son and she is reasonably upset because Levon was created before Hank had even met her. Although to be fair Hank did in fact have no idea of Levon's existence before the premiere so how could he have known? Still no Becca this season, I imagine she'll guest star for the eventual Levon reveal but besides that I think the actor that plays her has gone on to other projects. Hank picks up Levon for his first day as a PA on Santa Monica Crap (instead of cop, get it?) and Levon gets the salad orders wrong which makes Rath blow up at him. He wants to quit but Hank tough loves him into staying and Rath apologizes for blowing up at him (see, best new character). Hank is tasked to write episode 3 much to the chagrin of Terry (the guy who has a problem with Hank being a waitress). Hank sits in on auditions and fingers an actress (not sure if it was rape-ish or not she did force him in there) but she still got the part. Levon shows Rath's assistant a "funny video" that when described made me so uncomfortable and he gets in trouble. In the end his mother comes and apologizes for Levon, Rath develops a crush on Julia and says she's be great for a part on the show. The most disturbing part is when the female PA admits that the explicit video was "kinda funny" so that's totally cool that you just show people pornographic material at work and if it's funny then I guess no harm, no foul. It's that kind of garbage that makes this show unbearable at points. Also, Runkle still can't get it up and I still don't care. Also, Californication (despite showing its obvious age) always uses the same tactic for new characters by giving them a love interest that's either Karen or not Karen. For example, Rath is the new requisite character therefore to get to know him better Tom Kapinos sets him up with Julia. The same was true of Stu Biggs and Marcy, Samurai Apocalypse and that singer, and so on and so forth. The show only remains on my radar ultimately because I've stuck with it for so many years I'm invested in where Hank ends up and David Duchovny has an effortless charm that elevates the material but when you're seven years in it's especially hard for a comedy to remain fresh (other examples include Weeds, Two 1/2 Men, .moreless
