  • Another great ep.

While the appeal to many fans of this episode may have been Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick guest starring, and playing a homosexual character as opposed to his womanizing personality on the CW drama, for me I loved it because it was Californication at its purest. The unique sense of deviant comedy is just unparalleled by any other show on TV. Californication has the humor of Entourage (except is funnier), the aura of Mad men, and the backstory of The Wrestler (just substitute an author for a professional athlete). In that sense it is one of pay cable's best shows.

David Duchovny is just so into his character that it is impossible to imagine anybody else playing the part. Evan Handler continues to impress me this season as well as he is growing into a great supporting castmember when he was always just sort of there.

Strong episode, one of the best comedies of the week, yet again.
  • Is that a hot potato I smell?

The thing that makes you keep watching this show is that it pushes the envelope in just about every direction it can go - and this episode's attention to rape fantasies was a typical example. Hot potato topics are a cornerstone of Californication, but this one took the biscuit (well, so far anyway - wonder what other tricky topics will be covered in future episodes?). And I have to say - how nice to see Ed Westwick, who plays a self-indulgent, pretentious gay character who is hard to like SO well. What a nice change from Gossip Girl's Chuck :)
