Californication has been great this season, there's no denying that, but this episode took a step back in garnering more popularity and critical praise for the second year program. The dinner party episode is so played out and has been done to death on almost, possibly every, single sitcom. Hank Moody still gave us some great one-liners, but I have actually read reports of people who believe that Becca is the best character. She got time here, but yeah, she's pretty annoying. I don't like how every week we have the break-up fight between Hank and Karen either. It's growing tiresome, but luckily we should be seeing the author venturing back into the dating world (or at least the tapping world, what up?).
Ok, I don't even know where to start.. For one; is it normal to have a dinner party where you talk openly about sex and drugs etc. in front of children (teenagers)? And to top it off you have people doing drugs in the kids room and yourself in the bathroom? As a parent, is it normal to let someone into your home who is off their heads on ecstacy? I don't have kids, but I didn't think so. Sure Californication is definitely different, but I was still surprised by that. But the biggest question here is, why the H*LL would they invite Mia to this dinner, she only causes trouble...
Hank finally works up the strength to propose to Karen just before a dinner party that they are having with freinds. At this dinner party Hank is introduced to his daughters boyfriend and though he makes life hard for him he thinks he's a really good kid. But a big bombshell is waiting for him when the rest of the guests show up and no, I don't mean Hank's agent and his wife hyped up on E all night!
I don't want to spoil the fun but lets say it leaves things in a tough spot for Hank and Karen.
If there has to be a fault to this ep it has to be the agent (sorry my mind has gone blank with his name) and the missus who as of late have been a real chore to watch. I hope that somethign good happen with them soon or they will just drag the show down!
Love it... really brilliant... really sad... Best episode so far (Even considering Season 1)! I think only real tears can express how good and real and sad this show really is! But I ain't gonna cry at my keyboard :P
I am not going to write to much. I was completly emotionally with Hank. Such a funny and equall sad episode. I can't really believe how good David and Natsaha are. They are top notch actors and this episode is frakin brilliant. I love special efects, I love stunt or fighting sequences, but when something gets me on an emotional level... well that is extra-ordinary!
I could cry like a baby after this one. The style of Californication also got upgraded, we get sequences filtered in a way, like they do them in the oficial intro, it really is a good way to show how time passes, or to make it clear to the viewer, that a very personal scene is about to be screended.
After the first two episodes I thought the whole thing suffers from "Season Two syndrome" - like Heroes, but in fact, after this episode I have to say that Californication was never better than now... and it was really genius already last year!
