The premise of this series are historically true. I can affirm it as fact as it is part of my military history. The part referred to as too soap box was the writers attempt to depict military family live under such conditions.
Since the actual place these events occurred from the Island of Guam, it would have been difficult to produce it on location. I was amazed at the program since everything was classified Secret or Top Secret. In closely reading the credits, I was able to affirm in my own mind that the story line was true. As a ground equipment technician, our shop had to recover the high flier pilot an transport them, in a air conditioned van, to base ops, then pick them up when they were ready to go on their next mission. The references to the soap box part of the story line were depictions of what families had to contend with which the writers took liberty. Remember, the Island of Guam is 4 to 8 miles wide and about 35 miles long so there was no way to depict the families every day lives. This production is superb and authentic and I am proud to have been a part of the mission. There were other aspects not depicted in this production, which was of vital importance such as War Support Plans to support the B52 missions to Vietnam. These areas were vital such as munitions, and a Tanker base to provide for refueling the B52 on their return to base.
