Sorry but Camp Rock's characters were rip-offs of HSM characters.

Mitchie, the female Hispanic lead, was basically a lesser version of Gabriela from HSM.

Tess, the b*tchy blonde villainess, a lesser version of Sharpay.

Disney basically just stole the HSM formula and tried to apply it elsewhere, but it loses something in the translation.

I think they were more extreme versions. Mitchie lied to become popular while Gabriella wanted to lay low. & the way Tess acted, I found to be much more mean than Sharpay was.

I think one of the more obvious parallels may have been Alyson's character (forgot her name) with Kelsi.

Tess was a lot better then Sharpay was, Sharpay never struck me as evil but Tess sure did.

Just about the only part of the move that I found impressive was how they handled Tess especially in the end. She was about the only character that was not predictable.

I agree with what you said about the girl that was a rip-off of Sharpay. I kept getting that vibe from her for the whole movie.

But I don't agree with Gabriella. Mitchie was just afraid of being herself, thinking that she wasn't "cool" enough, where as Gabriella was just naturally afraid. To me, she seemed afraid to stand out. It was never a matter of being popular with Gabriella because it both HSM movies she stayed true to herself.

so here is the thread that you said.

i agree, i think the characters look so much like the same ones from HSM, they just changed their names. the movie had something good in it, it was funny, but it's not as good as HSM. disney relied on the jonas bros. to carry the movie instead of the movie carrying the characters. they should invest more with the story.

I agree with you. The story and the characters were not fleshed out. It was like an outline of a story and characters and Disney execs thought, "Hey, if we just throw in a bunch of songs, nobody will notice."

I don't agree with any of you. They are not watered-down versions of HSm characters. They are almost nothing alike.
