This week it was the judges' choice; they choose which songs the Idols would sing, and each one sang two songs.
Chad is tied for least favourite singer. In the recap of his time on the show, I really noticed how much his voice is annoying. However, the judges call that his 'special quality' and for some songs, it's okay, or less noticeable. But tonight he was 50-50; his first song was okay, but his second, Everybody Hurts just wasn't good. The judges may have chosen songs based on the singers' abilities and voices, but this just wasn't a good choice.
Craig was given George Michael's Careless Whisper and Smokey Robinson's Tears of a Clown; he was the opposite of Chad, doing well on the second and not so well on the first. Even the second song started off rough, but his voice evened out after the first line. So 50-50 for him too.
Tyler did Big League by Tom Cochran and Heaven by Eric Clapton; somehow, he just didn't do too well on either one.
Eva did Would I Lie To You? by Eurythmics and Old Skool Love by Divine Brown, and did well on both. The second song was especially strong. So what are the judges trying to do, exactly, since they chose these songs? It seems like maybe they're trying to kill off some of Tyler's appeal, while strengthening Eva's. I guess they got a bit of a shock that she was in the bottom two last week, so they definitely gave her good songs. Based on past performances, I'd like to see either Chad or Craig go this week (and the other one the next week) but that may not happen after Tyler's bad performance tonight. One thing's for sure: Eva's not going to be in the bottom this week!moreless
