Chester stops at nothing, including disobeying his father, to help out a little girl who's face was eaten by rats. He denies a settlement of $50,000 because he thinks he can get more and that the girl deserves more. During the trial, he finds out that the girl's father has sued many people before and that this time is no different. Chester is shocked a little at first but then comes up with his own plan. He asks the landlord when was the last time he was ever at the housing unit? He couldn't answer, so Chester gets the judge to allow the jury to visit their apartment to see all the pealing lead paint, the copper pipes, and rodents. It's a slam dunk for him after that. The jury awards him $20,000 in actual damages and $600,000 in punitive damages. The little girl can now get the plastic surgery she needs to fix her face.
Meanwhile, a man comes to Elizabeth with a problem. Gil raped someone 15 years ago and wants to make it right now. Elizabeth offers to help him by suggesting he write the woman a letter explaining himself and then turn himself in. The woman seems understanding, that is until a drive time radio show host tells her she needs justice and to make sure he sees jail time. For the radio host, it's a slam dunk plan for rating and he couldn't care about anything else. The Attorney General's office is now pushing for trial and Gil needs a lawyer. Unfortunately, Elizabeth has always stated that she will NOT defend a rapist, nor will she bash the victim. Molly, who has passed the bar exam, informs Elizabeth that she will not work in the office if she defends him. But Elizabeth feels guilty because she told Gil to turn himself in. While sitting talking to Matt, he tells her that she doesn't need to attack the victim, but attack the judge, the radio host, the other man who was involved and got a suspended sentence and a slap on the wrist. Just don't blame the victim. After a long court battle, they come to an agreement of 5 years in jail, but the judge doesn't want to agree with it. He wants life in prison. Elizabeth informs him that the last person he gave life in prison to, was four years ago to a man that stabbed his wife 27 times. The judge has no choice but to agree with it.
Elizabeth returns home just as Matt is getting ready to leave. He's finished his packing and the separation is beginning. He informs Elizabeth that he has ended his relationship with his student and that hopefully time apart will do them some good.
