  • They haven't lost Pilot only...

    9.9
I really love this episode, although it's the sadest one ever... It meant, more than Pilot's death, Jessica Steen leaving the show. She did it for some reasons I find justified(violence, and the fact that Mattel used the program to sell toys and I think it's a good thing Captain Power has been cancelled simply because this show, without Jessica Steen, would be really miserable. After watching a few episodes you realize that she's the only one acting, which means actually that she IS Jennifer "Pilot" Chase, that if you hear of her or see her anywhere else, you'll think "Pilot" before even thinking "Jessica Steen". As for the scene when Pilot dies, it's the best scene ever in Captain Power because we can feel her sensations, we can see she's afraid of death, pain, but she really wants to do it to keep the Power Base's informations out of Dread's hands. However, when she finally tells Jon she loves him, his face should have been shown longer, his immediate reaction would have been very interesting. To continue about Jessica's performance in this scene, she really made me believe that SHE and not Pilot was hurt, because pain could be read on her face, and when she tells Joh she's broken from inside, we see she really means that, she really is. Finally, I think the pain of never seeing Jon anymore, additioned to the fear of dying, and the desire of revenge, the desire to destroy Lord Dread made her bounce when the Blastarr told her to surrender and push the destruction button. However, it would have been interesting, here too, to see the look on her face before the base explodes, instead of hearing her shouting "Go to hell" without even seeing her face...

Finally, her memory at the end of the episode was really good (it's a good thing they did it!), and for me, I love the part when she asks Jon about Athena : "Just friends?". A glimpse of jealousy and deception can be read on her face. They didn't just loose Pilot, they lost Jessica Steen. And that's the saddest part of it.
