When Colonel White picks up his hat after being left in the desert, the microphone arm clearly breaks off and remains on the ground, but as Captain Scarlet lands the microphone is back in place on the hat.
If Captain Black went to the trouble of killing Vandamm's first assistant, he could have had that person reconstructed as a Mysteron agent instead of posing as the replacement assistant himself, which wouldn't have aroused Spectrum's suspicions as easily.
