Under the hot desert sun, Symphony Angel completes her patrol and starts to make her way back to Cloudbase. However before she gets very far, a strange buzzing sound is heard and an explosion disables her Angel jet. She is able to report he position before being forced to eject. She lands safely as the jet crashes and explodes, but in the heat, she discards her helmet and with it, her radio and link to Cloudbase. She soon collapses.
On Cloudbase, Green reports that is still no word from Symphony. White assures Scarlet and Blue that she will be found and then starts to discuss the Mysteron threat to attack Cloudbase with his Captains. White explains that during the emergency, Cloudbase will be sealed from all external contact, and any plane approaching will be warned off. Cloudbase will be on red alert and the radar watch will be doubled.
Still in desert, Symphony wakes up just in time to see an Angel jet flies right over her head. Unfortunately, Destiny doesn't see her and reports in to Cloudbase. White orders her back to base. Symphony falls unconscious again.
Back on Cloudbase, Scarlet assures Blue that Destiny will find Symphony, unaware that she has been recalled. They make their way down to the radar room where Captain Magenta is keeping watch on the area around Cloudbase. Magenta lets slip that Destiny landed about five minutes ago. Enraged, Blue storms off to see Colonel White. Blue bursts into the control room, demanding an explanation as to why the search was called off. After a brief argument, White explains that Cloudbase is his first priority and Destiny may be required to defend. Symphony's last known position has been send to Spectrum ground forces and they will find her. Blue requests permission to join the ground forces, but White denies the request. Blue admits that he's in love with Symphony, but White is adamant that he must stay on Cloudbase.
Night falls on Cloudbase, and Magenta is still keeping watch while everyone else is nervously awaiting the first sign of the Mysteron attack. Suddenly, Magenta picks up a signal on the radar screen. He reports it's course, range and speed to White, but the object stops and hovers 25 miles from Cloudbase. White has action stations sounded and had Angel 1 launched to investigate. Rhapsody reports that the object is circular, with a diameter of 200 feet. It's a some sort of space craft. Rhapsody turns to return to Cloudbase, but the same noise that made Symphony crash is heard and her jet is completely destroyed. Green tries desperately to contact Rhapsody, but she's gone. White is sure that the Mysterons themselves have come to Earth to destroy them. Later, in the conference room, White informs his officers that Cloudbase is now positioned over the Himalayas so that if it is attacked, no civilians will be hurt. Dismissing the meeting, White requests a word with Scarlet apparently with something important to say, but instead tells him to get a haircut. A short time later, the radar detects another three ships approaching Cloudbase. White orders Angel 2 to be launched, but Scarlet insists on flying it himself. White orders Destiny to turn over her plane to Scarlet and, after some passionate objections, Destiny relents. Scarlet launches the Angel, but he two is shot at when he approaches the UFOs,. HE just manages to return to Cloudbase, crashing onto the flight deck. The UFOs move in closer, attacking Cloudbase directly, killing Dr. Fawn with a hit on the sickbay. Cloudbase is now surrounded by dozens of ships. In the remains of the sickbay, Blue reports Fawn's death, and that his assistant, who looks remarkably like Captain Black, has told him that Scarlet is dead. White asks how long it'll take for him to recover, but Blue explains that this time he's really dead, completely and finally. White's mourning is broken with another loud radio call from Magenta, who is still trying to count the number of UFOs. The ships continue their attack, scoring a hit on the radar room and killing Captain Magenta. With more hits finding their target, Cloudbase loses power and begins to spiral out of control, tipping the remaining Angels off the flight deck. Another shot from the UFOs kills the remaining Angels in the Amber Room. Blue tells White that Cloudbase will crash in about 2 minutes. As it falls to Earth, a UFO gets in very close, hitting the control tower. Green reports that they, White, Blue and himself are the last ones left alive. Presumably Captains Ochre and Grey were killed earlier. No sooner has he said this, but another shot kills Green where he sits. Only White and Blue remain. White orders Blue to use a power pack to abandon Cloudbase, but with a broken arm, Blue says he can't make it. In his final moments, White breaks with protocol, calling Blue by his real name for the time. He also takes out a black box from his desk, containing three medals. He then makes his final report to Spectrum Headquarters London, saying that Cloudbase is going to crash and he intends to go down with his command. The impact of the crash is interrupted when Symphony wakes up. It has all been a dream, and Scarlet and Blue, both alive and well have arrived to rescue her.
Back on Cloudbase, Symphony explains what happened in her dream, saying that everyone, even Scarlet was killed. Also, everyone except Blue was different somehow. But it was only a dream, not to mention anti-climatic.
