I kinda wish the Mysterons had been successful more often.

Obviously I want Spectrum to win most of the battles, but I think it adds a sense of realism to the show for the bad guys to win every once in a while. I only wish that they had succeeded in carrying out their plot(s) a little bit more often than they did.

I believe that the Mysterons succeeded in 2 episodes over the course of the original show's run. In my opinion, it would have worked a little bit better if they had won in maybe 7 or 8 episodes. Not that I'm rooting for mayhem or anything like that. But as I said, it makes the show seem more realistic. Because as we all know, in real life the good guys don't always win.

In addition, I think that it would have added more suspense over the eventual outcome of the episode. If we know that the bad guys can, and do win from time to time, we would be watching the conflict in each episode with a certain level of uncertainty. And I think that that's a good thing. In most shows (or movies) we kind of know that everything is gonna work out in the end and thus our only reason for watching is to see how it ends up working out. Which, in my opinion, is kinda boring.

So kudos to the creators on the show for deciding to have the bad guys win in a few episodes. But I think that they could have carried it a little bit farther to achieve a greater affect.

I agree, it was nice to see the Mysterons win sometimes, even if it was only by luck rather than planning. Given how inept Spectrum seemed to be at times, the Mysterons should have won alot more. One thing I would have liked to have seen would be the events of "Attack on Cloudbase" be made real (without the dream aspect) and the episode serve as the series finale where Spectrum is destroyed and the Mysterons themselves have arrived on Earth. That would really have turned the whole thing on it's head with our heros ultimately failing and would have made a better finale than that clip show they did.
