Episode Summary

Model Spy
Two models, eager to make their names publicised and internationally known in France, are killed in a dramatic staged monorail train crash, while en route to Paris, and are rebuilt by the Mysterons, in a bid to assassinate Andre Verdain owner of the "House of Verdain", a top modelling & fashion design company, which keeps his real occupation as the controller of the European Area Intelligence Service a secret.

Captains Scarlet and Blue, along with Angels Symphony and Destiny are assigned to act as French newspaper photographers and stunning, attractive models, in order to guard Verdain from any Mysteron attacks, but they are absolutely oblivious of the presence of the two female model doppelgangers.moreless

  • Not great

They Mysterons go after a guy called Verdain, who has the most horrible French accent imaginable but least it seems to be a fake voice and is still better than Destiny's French grunting. The monorail train crash was actualy quite frightening and it started wobbling then flung itself off the track. The Mysterons seem quite bloodthirsty here, apparently killing a train full of people just for the two models. Interestingly, neither of the two Mysteron models are killed during this episode; one is captured the other disappeared with Black. One major nitpick; throughout the episode the Mysterons have been trying to kill Verdain by setting fire to his boat and having Black try to shoot him, yet once BLack has him, suddenly they have to get him to some island. Where this island came from, how the Mysterons got it and why they've changed their plan is never made clear. Apart from that oddity, this is areasonable episode, but one of the best.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (15)

    • The Score: Verdain survives. Spectrum: 11 Mysterons: 3.

    • Mysteron Reconstructions: Gabrielle (monorail crash/in Spectrum custody) Helga (monorail crash/still at large).

    • Spectrum Losses: None.

    • Collateral Damage: 1 civilian car, 1 boat, 1 monorail train, driver and passengers.

    • Colonel White says "I can't remember an assignment where secrecy mattered so much", yet only four episodes ago in "Special Assignment" he sent Scarlet on a top secret misison to uncover a Mysteron plot that involved his seeming to be sacked from Spectrum and being hired by Mysterons.

    • Symphony's big blue tie doesn't have a knot.

    • Helga tries to push Verdain out of the car window, but at no point does she think to make things easier for herself by opening the door.

    • Neither Michelle or Helga were killed but they are never mentioned again. Michelle is in Spectrum custody and Helga is presumably still at large with Captain Black.

    • Despite having nausea attacks when in the presence of Mysterons, this time Scarlet feels nothing when he spends most of the episode with not one, but two of them.

    • If the Mysterons could use their influence to make the train crash, they should have been able to do the same to Verdain's yacht.

    • The Mysterons go to all the trouble of killing and reconstructing the two models yet their plan to kill Verdain consisted of Captain Black descending the side of the building on a platform to shoot Verdain through the window.

    • The Mysterons said they wanted to kill Verdain, which they attempted twice, yet on the third try, they just kidnapped him and tried to get to some island. Why didn't they just shoot him while he was in the car? Why the change of plan?

    • Despite having meant to have dropped their codenames for the mission as Captain Scarlet had said, the Angels were still called by their codenames throughout the operation.

    • How could Scarlet not have had any suspects as to who started the fire on the boat? There were only seven people on board, and five of them worked for Spectrum, leaving only the two models.

    • Before the train crashed, the two models were sat on the right of the cabin as we looked at them, but after the crash, they had moved to the left.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Mysterons: This is the voice of the Mysterons. We know you can hear us Earthmen. We will continue to take our revenge. You should never have attacked our Martian complex. We are about to attack the House of Verdain. Andre Verdain will die.

  • NOTES (2)

    • Despite them referring to each other by their first names throughout the series, Scarlet and Blue's full real names are revealed here to be Paul Metcalfe and Adam Svenson respectively. Scarlet's full name would later be used in "Special Assignment".

    • For the first time ever, Lieutenant Green is wearing his hat while manning his console on Cloudbase. Previously, the only person to have worn his hat while working that station was Captain Magenta in "Lunarville 7".
