The Score: Mysterons destroy the observatory. Spectrum: 14 Mysterons: 4.
Mysteron Reconstructions: Dr. Breck (killed by telescope/shot by Scarlet).
Spectrum Losses: 1 SPV.
Collateral Damage: 1 Himalayan Observatory and 2 staff, 1 satellite.
Colonel White mentions an "Operation Sword", but this is never mentioned again.
The Mysteron voice sounds different in this episode.
Captain Blue seems amazed that they can get pictures all the way from Mars, yet the first episode clearly showed actual people visiting Mars, and not for the first time; that honour having gone to Captain Paul Travers and the crew of the first and second Zero-X missions from Thunderbirds Are Go.
Captain Blue gets a Mysteron Detector when they already know who the Mysteron was, but doesn't bother to get a Mysteron Gun at the same time.
When compared to the mini-satellite, the Martian moon Phobos is far too small. Phobos is actually around 20km wide and should have dwarfed the satellite.
Dr. Breck calls Mars "the red planet". While this is what Mars is commonly called, it is contradicted by his own telescope, as it clearly shows it to be white.
Mars is said to be 43 million miles away from Earth. In reality, it can be anywhere between 36 and 250 million miles away.
The manner in which Dr. Breck is killed at the telescope is remarkably similar to the death of an astronomer in The Avengers episode "From Venus With Love". Both are killed mysteriously while watching one of Earth's planetary neighbours (Venus and Mars).
Mysterons: This is the voice of the Mysterons. We know that you can hear us Earthmen. The eye that dares to look upon out planet has been destroyed. You will never succeed. You will never discover the secret of the Mysterons. We will be avenged.
Colonel White: (explaining the episode title) In Greek mythology, Phobos was the attendant of Mars. It means 'fear'. The name is appropriate. Because of the Mysterons, the whole world lives in the shadow of fear.
This episode must be set after "Spectrum Strikes Back" due to the appearance of Mysteron Detectors.
This is the final episode in production order to feature Paul Maxwell providing the voice of Captain Grey. Grey also largely disappeared from the series after this episode as well.
