A team of professional robbers break into a minor Spectrum Security Vault near the coast of New York, where "useless" documentation is kept, which proves quite valuable to the lawbreakers. Along with another gang member, they simulate a fake play-act for a forest lookout warden, just on the outskirts of the American capital as hopeless, potentially dangerous drunks. They set-up their car with fake lookalike puppets to deceive the warden into thinking that the 3 drunken men that he just warned has helplessly crashed off the high mountainous road, and exploded in a fireball.

The gang then takes care of the warden and, deliberately posing as Mysteronised humans, they announce the force's latest plan to destroy the Second National Bank of New York, however the real Mysterons have yet to announce this at all, except for stating that they will destroy "The Heart of New York", but Colonel White understands that the bank is more than vital to fulfill the threat, as it stocks the entire gold reserve for the whole Eastern Seaboard of the country.

The robbers nevertheless intend to achieve their goal, again by posing as senior agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and succeed in gaining entry through the Spectrum roadblock. With the entire American city evacuated, the bank is a sitting-duck, but Captain Black is awaiting their arrival, and only has fatal intentions in mind.moreless

yes the Mysterons win, but why do they win? Was it an intricate plan that deceived Spectrum and allowed them to carry out their threat? No. Colonel White decided Spectrum wasn't going to bother protecting a mere bank and left the Mysterons to it. The part with the three men posing as Mysterons was interesting, but ultimately they just turned into petty bank robbers. I must commend Black for blowing them up though, but Spectrum did make it too easy for him. The best scene of this episode has got to be the one with Captain Magenta and his snazzy shades. That was hilarious. As if putting on sunglasses would make a man dressed head to toe in bright pink look cool. This episode would have been much better if Spectrum had at least tried to protect and the bank. They might have even caught Captain Black this time as well.moreless

    • The Score: Mysterons destroy the bank. Spectrum: 8 Mysterons:3.

    • Mysteron Reconstructions: None, although there are 3 fakes.

    • Spectrum Losses: None.

    • Collateral Damage: Second National Bank is destroyed along with 3 men. 1 civilian car.

    • When Scarlet calls Colonel White on Cloudbase from the Security Vaults, the colonel's shoulder epaulettes flash. However, as he was sat at his desk and didn't have his cap and microphone on, they shouldn't have as he used the desk radio. This has never happened before.

    • The Park Ranger told Spectrum about the three guys who he thought had been reconstructed as Mysterons, but didn't bother to give out any descriptions of these "Mysterons".

    • As Scarlet and Blue raced to the bank in a Spectrum saloon car, the guiding rod used to control the car model could be seen as the vehicle turned a corner.

    • One of the robbers refers to Magenta several times as "Captain". While this is correct, Magenta never introduced himself and his uniform does not indicate rank. There are at least three ranks that wear the same colour-coded uniforms (Colonel, Captain and Lieutenant), so how did the man know his rank?

    • As the three men pulled up to Captain Magenta's road block, Magenta called Captain Ochre on his cap radio and Ochre was then showed replying. However, Ochre did not have his cap radio microphone activated as it was still retracted into his cap.

    • After Captain Blue and Captain Scarlet are ordered to New York, Scarlet's cap microphone doesn't retract properly and stops at eye level instead of returning to the cap visor.

    • Either the camera was zoomed-in too much, or it was postioned too close to the Second National Bank model, but even so, when the model explodes, the flying debris and flames fall just a little too close to the filming camera.

    • In the close-up puppet shots of Captains Scarlet, Blue and Black driving through the downtown New York streets, the rolling painted background has trees, bushes and various other vegetation decked out on it. However, in the actual miniature model shots, there is no vegetation lined up along the streets.

    • Mysterons: This is the voice of the Mysterons. We know that you can hear us Earthman. We have seen the greed and corruption of the world in which you live and will take our revenge upon it. We will destroy the heart of New York. We have not forgotten.

    • Captain Magenta: If you do run into difficutly, Spectrum cannot help. All our personnel have been pulled back outside of the road blocks, but you are clear to proceed. Good luck. Kruger (FBI): Thanks, Captain... we'll manage.

    • Kruger: Well boys, the town has been evacuated. We can take our time, and just help ourselves to the money.

    • Doig: Road block! Better ease up. Kruger: Right. Carl: It's a Spectrum road block. We'll have to be careful. Kruger: Spectrum will be looking for Mysterons. That's the way we planned it. We'll get through.

    • Kruger: Well, you must get quite a view from up there. Doig: Here, pal! Have a drink. Forest Warden: No thanks, you say you saw a fire? Kruger: The man said have a drink. Forest Warden: Look, quit playing games, will you? Pull off the road, and sober up. Kruger: Are you insuinating I'm drunk?! Forest Warden: Well, by the smell of the liquor in this car, I'd say you've all had enough. Carl: Let's get out of here! Forest Warden: Take my advice friend, keep your speed down. There are some mighty dangerous bends just up ahead. Kruger: You just watch you don't fall off that tower.

    • Kruger: Well, let's just see how rich Spectrum are.

    • Doig: Do you think it will work? Kruger: Sure, it will work. Inside an hour...we will all be Mysterons.

  • NOTES (5)

    ADD NOTES
    • This is the first episode to show the Mysterons ability to dematerialize/teleport objects, in this case, to help Black escape capture. In later episodes such as "Inferno", "Expo 2968" and "Model Spy", Black seems to have control of this power himself.

    • The submarine used by the safe robbers previously appeared as the Hood's sub in the Thunderbirds episode "Desperate Intruder".

    • The flashing gas disk that the robbers throw at the Spectrum Vault guard makes the same warble and pinging noise as the red video phones used in several episodes of Thunderbirds.
