  • Classic slapstick comedy. Jan Murray is superb!

Car 54 is one of my all time favorite comedy shows. The Boom Boom Boom episode is one I will never forget. The many police barber shop quartets throughout New York are in a city wide singing contest, but the rub is they all have to sing the same song, which is 'By the light of the Silvery Moon'. The lead singer does the melody and the other three keep up with boom, boom, boom, boom. Judge Jan Murray after hearing hundreds of quartets is slowly going crazy. His head starts moving to the cadence of boom, boom, boom. Finally at the end of the show the men in the white suits have to take him away as he keeps saying "I want to go to Boom Boom land"
This show also showcases the beautiful bass voice of Fred Gwynn, also known as Herbert Munster.
