Sakura is just a normal fourth grader attending Tomoeda Elementary School. One day after school, she finds a mysterious book in her father's library called "The Clow". When she touches it, mysterious cards fly out, an a strange creature name Kero comes out.     I thought that this show would be horrifying because my friend watched it and she said it was good but I thought it was for little kids but it's an anime so why the heck shouldn't I try it? I thought it was really good because it introduced the main characters (or some of them, at least) and gave a nice setting and beggining plot. One thing I want to know is what grade Sakura is in, exactly. I'd say fourth or third, maybe, but I'm not entirely sure. And I wonder what Sakura will tell her dad if he finds out, and she will have to travel the world, and so many more questions! So, I guess I'll watch the next episode, sooner or later.moreless

    Sakura is the name of the main character of this story. She is a young girl who goes to school, just a regular kid. She lives with her brother (Touya) and her father (Fujitaka), her mother (Nadeshiko) passed away a few years ago. Her brother has a friend (Yukito) who Sakura secretly likes. They sometimes go to school together but they don't attend to the same school, because they're older. She has a friend called Tomoyo, who happens to be her best friend. When she arrives home, she realizes there's no one home and she starts to hear some strange noises in the basement and consequently she went down to check. She finds the sorce of the noise (which was a book) and goes towards it to check. As she opens it a lot of rare cards start to come out of it and she can't stop them. After all the cards are gone, she hears another thing. She finds a little being, who introduced himself as Kerberos, the guardian of the cards. He tells Sakura now she has to get all the cards back as she set them free. Later that nigt they go out to catch a card. She learns how to use the magic of the cards and then she captures the windy, the first card she captured (although she used the fly first). That's how the Card Captor story begins.moreless

    Pilot episodes have the unfortunate task of introducing a series. In thirty minutes tops, the creators have to have a creative, new, and intriguing idea that draws viewers in. The creators have to introduce the main character(s), supporting character(s), the plot, the setting....just about everything. One doesn\'t know anything about this world, so the pilot episode has to include DETAIL.

    This episode is one of the few pilots I\'ve seen that achieves all that and more in the twenty two minutes or so. It introduced a plot that the characters and us viewers know will carry on for what might be a very long time.

    In Sakura and the Mysterious Magic Book, we are introduced to a main character, our title character fourth-grader Sakura; supporting characters older brother Toya, best friend Tomoyo-chan, crush Yukito-san, and \"sidekick\" Kero-chan. The episode starts with a dream. Sakura is standing on the top of a building holding a wand of some sort, and a small animal floating beside her. All this in facing Tokyo Tower. This is not a normal dream.

    Following this is a day in the life of Sakura (and narrated by her as well), with her waking up late, meeting her crush on the road to school, meeting her friend at school, daydreaming during class, cheerleading after school....The only difference is, when Sakura gets home from school, she discovers something in her father\'s basement library that changes her life forever.

    So Sakura learns about the Cards. 52 cards total. From this first episode, we the viewers realize that capturing a Card is a complex affair. Moments after Sakura is granted the power of the Key, a large bird flies over town. Kero-chan at her side, Sakura grows in maturity at the task ahead, and bravely jumps on the back of the bird, finally capturing the FLY Card. Seeing the ordeal she goes through, we viewers would guess she would capture one card an episode, making the whole series at least 52 episodes.

    So the ending of this episode keeps the viewer anxious, on the edge of their seat for the following episode. How does life go on? Will she tell anyone about it? And, we wonder, how will Sakura capture the rest of the Cards? Will there be trouble along the way?

    And so this pilot achieves:
    (a)Introduction to cast of characters,
    (b)Introduction of setting,
    (c)Introduction of on-going plot,
    (d)Captures interest in viewers.

    And in so doing, I believe Cardcaptor Sakura is one of very few shows that started off with such determination and confidence. I have finished watching the series, but the first episode is one I\'ve re-watched at least five times. It\'s where the whole story begins, and it surely is an episode to remember.moreless

    An average 4th grader,name Sakura who has an normal girl who goes to elementary school.Who has an crush on Yukito (Julian).Tomoyo begin to tease Sakura about the way that Yukito gave the candy wishing that she had her camera with her.One day she goes into her father's library,and finds an mysterous book known as "The Clow Book" and accidently opening the book releasing all the cards.Which also awakens Kero the guardian of the clow book who guards the clow book.Now he tells Sakura,that it is her duty to recapture the cards and return them back to the book.

    This was an awsome episode.My favorite part was when she thought Kero was an stuff toy at firstmoreless

    This was an awesome episode. A great start to the series. Sakura is really cutein the wayshe does things and the way she explains things. But come on! I would not be running around after a card in my pyjamas! That\'s just wrong! She must have been freezing at that height. She gives me joke though. She was acting linke Kero was an electric pllush toy! I laughed for ages after that. And Tomoyo is really sweet. But still, I wouldn\'t be dussing out of the house in my PJ\'s after a damn CARD! But still, Sakura is too damn fass! idle hands is the Devil\'s Workshop and curiosity killed the cat! She shouldn\'t have touched the book!moreless

    • Clow Cards Captured: Windy, Fly (Sakura)

    • Character debut – Kero Kero's name is derived from Cerberus, the three-headed guardian beast of the underworld from Greek Mythology. In his true form he is a mighty lion beast with wings, but for most of the series he is a small mascot often mistaken for a teddy bear. His Romanized name for the anime series was Kero-chan (Little Kero in bang zoom credits) and Keroberos during the time of the original broadcast. Since two different voice actors were used for Kero's voice, this guide will refer to him as Kero (mascot form) and Keroberos (true form).

    • After Sakura gives Kero the Windy card, the card is upside down. However, when Kero (after looking it it) turns it towards the screen, it's face up though he does not flip the card.

    • The older TOKYOPOP releases of the manga render his name as "Keroberos," but this was changed in later printings to "Cerberus" at CLAMP's request

    • The original manga series only contained 19 Clow Cards. It was moved up to 52 when it was decided that Card Captor Sakura would be made into an anime series.

    • Each member of the Kinomoto family are named after a flower: Sakura is named for the spring cherry blossoms, Touya is named after the peach blossoms, father Fujitaka is named after Japanese wisteria, and mother Nadesico is named after the allwood flower.
