Carnivale

This episode opens with Ben and Justin in a typical diner sitting at a counter. Two men then walk in. They make a toast, the windows of the diner smash open. Both Ben and Justin suddenly awake from this nightmare. At the carnival, Ben is made to clean out the baggage trailer. While in the baggage trailer, Ben discovers a photograph of his mother and the words H.S. and Flo on the back. He also finds a tuxedo identical to the one the man was wearing in his dream. When the job to clean out the trailer is revealed to be a joke by the Carneys, Samson is shocked the see the picture Ben has puller from the non-existent trailer. Elsewhere at the carnival, Sophie's mother silently insists on Ben coming back for another tarot card reading, while Lodz presses Samson fro more details about Ben and Management.

Justin meets with Mr. Templeton about the nightclub he visited in the previous episode. He wants Mr. Templeton to donate the property to the church, but he just laughs in his face. Justin then takes Mr. Templeton to a vision of Chin's and reveals that Mr. Templeton has been allowing the geisha girls and has taken child prostitutes himself.

Ben has another nightmare about the war, the diner, and a bear that seems to be advancing on him during a battle. When he wakes up, Apollonia speaks to him, "You're the one." When everyone rushes to the scene, Sophie finds her mother unconscious again and begins to blame Ben and accuses him of hurting her mother. Ben is roughed up by some of the Carneys before Samson clears them out. Ben then shows Ruthie the picture of his mother he found in the baggage trailer. She identifies her as Flora, the old girlfriend of Henry "Hack" Scudder, a former carnival geek man. She then shows Ben a picture of Scudder. Ben finally recognizes the man in the tuxedo and uniform from his dreams.

Justin returns to Chin's and pictures the new church. Mr. Templeton, in his car, commits suicide. Justin reports the news to his sister, Iris, and begins to beat himself, alone in his room.
