Do you think this show has those?

The usual kind of shows have at least one character that annoys the hell out of you. but Carnivale? I don't think there is a single pointless character during the show.

There are a very few that i'm not a fan of, but none of them seems pointless, badly written or anything else.

I have to agree. No bad characters, and not a wasted word in the writing.

Then that proves that she isn't a bad character because she is adding something to the show.

I personally thought Iris was kind of poorly written in the second season and I disliked Burley since he was the only character with no redeeming qualities, except perhaps Varlyn. Also, I think they focused too much on the stripper family. I didn't necessarily dislike them or think they were bad characters, but it seemed like they got more attention than Ben and Justin through most of the show, especially the first season.

Iris happens to be one of my favorite characters, especially in the second season. She has one scene in the finale with Norman when she says that she is damned to hell and that if she is lucky Brother Justin will be waiting there for her with open arms, which is such a brilliantly acted and written scene!
