Caroline in the City

Annie and Caroline are at the ATM, Annie suggesting that her depressing new dancer in Cats would be perfect for Richard. Caroline reminds her that he's still seeing Shelley, a clingy girl that neither of them like but he can't dump because "the first time her dad had a heart attack, the second time she was fired and the third time she had an actual fire". Annie quietly tells Caroline she has something on her nose and Caroline looks in the little mirror to see what it is.



In Richard's apartment his girlfriend Shelley is cooking him something and he decides he has to dump her before she makes him eat it. She happily tells him that she has all four Muppets Movies and makes him pat her dog, much to his distaste. When she says she wants to spend more time with him Richard abandons his idea of being honest with her and tells her he's allergic to her dog and all the medication he could take for it. Shelley leaves says she can't be with someone who can't be with her dog and leaves a very happy Richard.



Caroline's money hasn't come out of the ATM and inside the teller says she should come back the next day so the can watch the tape, the camera is behind the little mirror. When the woman leaves to get a form Caroline admits to Annie that she'd picked her nose and they both leave.



In Caroline's apartment Richard tells Del about his breakup and Del thinks his lie was brilliant. When Caroline and Annie come in Caroline tells them about picking her nose and when they tease her del says Caroline won't even floss in front of him and Caroline says Del always locks the door when he goes to the bathroom and Richard won't even use her bathroom. Richard storms out and Caroline says she's too embarrassed to go back to the bank.



Back in his apartment Richard is dancing and singing to himself but is cut short when Shelley turns up, having given her beloved dog away to a family in long Island.



The next day Caroline decides to go to the bank after all because it's $200 she'll lose. Richard turns up, distraught at Shelley's return. In an effort to help Caroline tells him to be straight with her but after she leaves Del tells him he'll have to lie. He suggests getting the dog back and telling Shelley he can't bear the thought of splitting them up. Reluctant at first Richard eventually decides to try it.



Caroline goes to the bank and is horrified to discover that the bank manager has to watch the tape to approve her getting her money back. The manager gossips about our celebrities this happened to and laughs at a man fixing his toupee, saying he'll be showing it at the Christmas Party. When he gets to Caroline's transaction he watches in stunned silence before writing her a receipt and Caroline leaves, her place at the bank Christmas Party assured.



Richard goes to Long island to get the dog back but when he asks he finds out it has been given to a little deaf boy. Richard can't bring himself to stay and leaves without the dog.



Caroline and Del try to get over their quirks but neither can. Richard tries picking his nose in front of Shelley but rather than repulsing her she's happy they can do things like that together and she runs to get toenail clippers, much to Richard's horror.
