Caroline in the City

Caroline and Del return from a morning racquetball game, walking in on Richard watching TV waiting for Caroline's return. Richard tries to start working but Del leaves saying "better luck next time" to which Caroline protests that their match was a tie because they couldn't finish the last game. Ignoring Richard's insistence to keep working Caroline and Del agree to a rematch so Richard goes back to watching the TV.



Three hours later Caroline still hasn't come back so Richard calls the gym. As he's describing his boos Caroline and Del come back, Caroline being helped across the threshold having hurt her back. Del puts her on the floor and leaves, not wanting to hear the story of the only day of school Caroline ever missed for a second time. Richard drags Caroline over to the table but she has to stay on the floor because her back hurts too much. Richard stops her from getting up and puts a frozen chicken behind her back. Caroline asks for ginger ale but there isn't any and Caroline complains that ginger ale was the only thing that made her feel better when she was younger. She complains at Richard's insensitivity at her pain and he says he's never been ill.



Charlie brings Caroline her fan mail, all from one fan "when he gets out he wants to meet you" and Annie throws away the pills Caroline was given and tells her to take some from her own stash but Caroline isn't sure. Richard calls a newspaper that runs Caroline's strip and tells her they can run a second "Cathy" strip which provokes Caroline into accepting the pills from Annie. Annie tells her to take 4 every 2 hours and when Richard points out it's supposed to be 2 every 4 hours Annie replies "4 times 2 is 8 whichever way you do it." Caroline falls asleep because of the overdose.



Richard is running around after Caroline trying to get her to wake up, making her eggs and he snaps at Del who went shopping for him. Del forgot the ginger ale which angers Richard further and when he tells Del about the "Cathy" strip Del tries to wake Caroline up but she's now awake but completely out of it.



With only an hour to go Caroline has only drawn a line on Richard's arm so in desperation Del suggests that he and Richard draw the strip for her. They make Caroline buy some shoes but her credit card is over the limit, and the punch line is "It can't be, I don't have enough shoes!" meanwhile Caroline fanta about being on a tropical island with ginger ale and when she wakes up she puts a Post-It on Salty's tail, which Del can't read so ignores. He and Richard finish the strip and it gets there on time.



With ten minutes to go Caroline finally wakes up and quickly tries to write a strip. Richard tells her he and Del finished it and Caroline reads the strip. She says they did well and Richard and Del leave. Richard knows Caroline hates it but Del thinks she loved it and that people all over the country will love it too.



In Seattle, Daphne Moon and Niles Crane are having breakfast and Daphne complains that the strip makes no sense. Niles reads it and laughs then pretends not to understand it either.
