Caroline in the City

Richard arrives in Caroline's apartment, complaining as usual, this time about the people on his train. Caroline says she has a surprise for him, which turns out to be a cow shaped pencil sharpener that moos when a pencil is put in it. She says it's to personalize his space and that he should bring something from home. He asks if he can bring one of his paintings in and Caroline agrees. Annie comes in and asks for help picking a dress for a date with her new boyfriend Steven.



The next morning Annie has gotten half a tattoo ("Ste", it was supposed to be "Steven" but it hurt too much) and Caroline says she wants to meet him. Annie reluctantly agrees. Richard brings in his painting, a huge monstrosity called "My Mother's Womb". Caroline hates it. Del comes in for their double date and likes it. When Steven comes in he also likes it, saying it's comforting.



In Remo's when Caroline asks Steven what he does he says he runs a carousel and has been since he got out of prison. Caroline drags Annie to the kitchen and says she doesn't like it. Annie tells her Steven was in for breaking and entering and despite Caroline's displeasure she says she's happy for Annie. Annie insists she thinks she's in love.



The next day Richard comes in to discover his painting is gone and when he calls Caroline down from her bedroom she notices that most of her stuff has been stolen. When the police ask if she knows of anyone who has access to her apartment Caroline says know but admits to Annie she thinks Steven did it. Annie defends her boyfriend and says she'll set a trap to prove to Caroline that he's innocent. She tells him Caroline has a new TV and they're all going out.



That night Del, Caroline and Annie sit in Caroline's apartment in the dark, Del complaining he's bored. Annie is sure Steven isn't coming and stands up to leave when they hear a key being turned in the lock. Caroline confronts him and Steven says he was only coming to check because he heard noises and knew Caroline had been robbed. Del admits that they were making a lot of noise. Steven turns on Annie and breaks up with her, saying he can't believe she won't trust him.



Annie walks to the window and argues with Caroline. After the argument she storms towards the door saying she has to go get Steven because he's stealing Del's Porsche.



Richard finds his painting in the corner, it has been found by a homeless man. After proving it's his Richard starts to take it away until the homeless guy tells him he thinks it's beautiful. Richard decides to let him keep it and walks away. As he leaves the guy tells his friend "That was close, we almost lost our roof!"
