Caroline in the City

Annie comes into Caroline's apartment and gives her the phone number of a man she just met. Caroline tries to interrupt and finally Del asks about the guy's pecs from the stairs, prompting Caroline to admit they're back together. Annie spots some suitcases and asks if he's moving in, but they're just going to Atlantic City for the weekend. Annie leaves, taking the number with her. Del says he has $500 and tells Caroline not to give him his ATM card if he asks for it.



Richard arrives and Caroline complains about his being so late and Richard says he'd just been mugged. Del asks if he had a weapon and Richard says no, and it was on a crowded street. Caroline comforts Richard until he tells her the portfolio he had was stolen too with the drawings for her new calendar inside it.



Del if left playing with scratch cards while Caroline and Richard try to redo the drawings. Caroline tells Del to go but he refuses and accidentally insults Richard, prompting Caroline to tell him to leave. Del goes to Atlantic City alone, leaving Richard and Caroline in the apartment. Caroline tries to get Richard to talk about being mugged but he refuses. Annie arrives with a beer keg, thinking Caroline is away. Caroline says she can't have a party in the apartment after the last one "it took me three days to figure out that smell coming from under my bed was a guy" and tells Annie to be nice to Richard as he's just been mugged. Annie teases Richard about it until Richard has an outburst that the mugger stole his last $37. Annie realizes Richard is more upset than he's letting on and says her relative was mugged and she bought a new purse to take some control back. Richard exclaims that he can't even take the bus so Caroline takes him out to buy him a new wallet.



On the train Richard shows off his new alligator wallet and urges Caroline to start talking about herself when a drunk sits next to her, which works. At a train stop Richard suddenly gets up and tells Caroline his mugger is on the train but she refuses to move. She sees a big guy and Richard is forced to admit he's not the mugger, a short man hiding behind him is. Caroline takes the law into her own hands and attacks him, leaving Richard holding her purse.



Back at the apartment Caroline is excited about catching Richard's mugger but Richard isn't. Caroline tells Annie all about it but hesitates when Annie asks how big he was, Richard bursts out "just tell her, I was mugged by one of the Lollipop Guild!" Annie leaves and Caroline tells Richard that she didn't think he was a coward. Richard has had enough and leaves, taking the last drawing with him. On his way out he tells Caroline about having a jacket stolen when he was younger. His sister watched as he did nothing and her expression was one of total disappointment and Caroline had the same look on her face when she saw his mugger.



Back on the train a man brushes up against Richard, who thinks he's been mugged again. He walks up to the man and asks for the wallet. When the man doesn't comply he yells at him until the wallet is handed over. Richard is elated until he realizes his wallet was in a different pocket and in fact he's just mugged a guy.



Del comes back to Caroline's apartment and says he couldn't bear to be in Atlantic City without Caroline. She asks him if he lost the money and he admits he did, in ten minutes. They start to head upstairs when Richard calls, he's been arrested and needs bail money. Caroline goes to bail him out (after a twenty minute session with Del). Richard is still down until Caroline points out that he picked on a big guy, which cheers Richard up.
