  • Brilliant storyline,but a few problems I didn't agree with.

Might I just say before this review continues that I love Case Closed (Detective Conan) and I love this plotline. It is based of the plot of the second storyline in volume 4 of the manga. It's a very suspenseful tale of Conan attempting to find out who the owner of a briefcase bomb is before the bomb detonates, killing everyone aboard. Now here are my problems with this anime adaptation.First off,the writers attempt to downplay the Black Organization early in the series comes at a costly price. In the original comic Conan doesn't encounter look-a-likes of the men who shrank him,but the men themselves!Sadly what the viewer loses here is Conan actually makes some progress in the original version,as while listening to their conversation over the wiretap,he overhears their codenames:Gin and Vodka, which is a key breakthrough! How this is covered in later episodes is unbelievable. In the English dub of "No Immunity For The Diplomat (Part 2)" Harley Hartwell (Heiji Hattori) somehow knows about them. But the Japanese original language version of "Game Gone Bad" is even stranger, with Conan in his thoughts already knowing the codenames without ever having learned them.Second, the very idea that Conan encounters two men who look and dress like the two main protagonists is in my opinion, just silly. And third,in the manga George,Mitch & Amy (Genta,Mitsuhiko, & Ayumi) weren't on the train, which I feel is an improvement, making it Conan's lone battle, especially if it really was the people that shrank him.The writers later had this problem when they screwed up the ending to "Mystery Mastermind" by once again removing Gin and Vodka, and replacing them with a generic criminal ringleader.Because the female lead in "Mastermind" later played a big role in the series although being dead, the writers had to remake the episode about one hundred episodes later. It just makes me wish that they would have paid attention to the importance in both storylines, but you can't change history.moreless

    [Contains minor spoilers]

I personally liked this episode ^^...but then again I do tend to like episodes involving the Black Organization or what Conan thinks to be the Black Organization. It wasn't -the best- but it was a fairly good episode.

Not a classic, persay, but it was very good ^^

  • Trivia

    ADD TRIVIA
    • Since Conan kicked it out the train it wasn't in the train to ignite the fuel and other flammable things on a train, duh...therefore the bomb obviosly large because it rattled the train and must have been pretty loud because Rachel and other passengers knew about the explosion! Edit
    • If the bomb was powerful enough to destroy an entire train, the explosion should have at least blew the train off the tracks when Conan kicked it out the window Edit
  • Notes

    ADD NOTES
    • Other Anime/Manga Differences: - George, Amy and Mitch appear in the anime version. It's Amy rather than Rachel who puts the gum in the ashtray. - In the manga, Melkior and Kaspar get away, while Conan reflects on learning their codenames. The anime ends with the lookalikes of Melkior and Kaspar getting arrested, and with Rachel questioning Conan on his true identity, with George, Amy and Mitch calling him a smart prank (In the manga, Rachel doesn't question him about it until the next chapter "Fish Marks The Spot"). Edit
    • CORRECTION: In the American release of the manga, the names of the two agents are revealed to be Melkior and Kaspar, NOT Gin and Vodka. Edit
    • This story appears in volume 4 of the manga. Edit

    ADD QUOTES
    • Conan heard that the bomb would blow the train into multiple pieces Conan: Multiple?! (Everyone looks at Conan in a confused manner) Conan: Ahh...Multiply 8 times 8! Kids: 8 times 8 is 64! Edit
    • Rachel: I can't believe you; it's your best friend's wedding day and you're shaving on the train, getting hairs on your wrinkly shirt. Richard: It's not my fault I overslept, alright?! I had a late-night meeting with some very important clients! Rachel: Would your clients' names happen to be Gin and Tonic? Edit
