Casting Couch

Show Summary

Casting Couch is a celebrity comedy panel game created by Robert Popper and hosted by Mel (Mel Giedroyc) and Sue (Sue Perkins). Mel and Sue are a popular British comedy duo who met as students at Cambridge. After the two women successfully hosted a popular lunchtime show with celebrity chefs, ITV created Casting Couch as a vehicle to showcase their comedic talents as a duo. In each episode, Mel and Sue form two teams under the guidance of team captains Chris Moyles and Tamara Beckwith, with regular guest celebrities Marcus Brigstocke and Kevin Day, and two guest celebrities. The topic is celebrity gossip, and each round pits teams against each other to showcase their knowledge of gossip, bizarre antics and shallow celebrity behavior. Teams use different methods to convey the question, such as charades or word association games, and Mel and Sue use their improv skills and fast-paced banter with the regulars to keep the comedy flowing. Six episodes were broadcast between November and December, 1999, but the series was not renewed.
