Castle's Season 5 Premiere: Lovers in a Dangerous Time

"After the Storm" couldn't have been in a bigger hurry to tie up all the loose ends from previous seasons. But it DID make me okay with Beckett and Castle as an item.

  • Episode Summary

Picking up the morning after, Castle and Beckett now have to decide if they're a couple or was it just a onetime deal. But before they can tackle that, they must deal with those responsible for Kate's mother's death who are now a threat to Beckett.

    • Great start!

I totally loved this. I find Beckett's and Castle's attempt to keep the new aspect of their relationship a secret to be hilarious.
    • After 5 years

      Finally! :-)

"After the Storm" kicked off Castle's fifth season with the humor, drama, and clever twists we've come to love. It's arguably one of the most well-written episodes in the show's history. It's off to a great start! and we finally get what we've always wanted to see Castle and Beckett in love...
    • After the Storm

For fans hoping to see what exactly went down that night between Castle and Beckett you were a bit disappointed, but for those who liked the last season finale, and wanted to see more high intensity action you got your wish. A little disappointed that it went so far up to a Senator, but this was still a really fun return to Monday's best TV show.
    • No longer the same Beckett

What happened to s1-3 Beckett. The kick-ass, take no prisoners Kate Beckett that made me fall in love with the show. To me, s4 Beckett was a coward, unwilling to deal with anything regarding her partner (Old Beckett would show no such hesitation). From the childish "Hide in the closet" (What are we, Greys Anatomy) to the really unsatisfying end of Maddox, I feel that this show has lost all its charm, and broken a main character, just to start a relationship. Only thing I found good in this episode was Beckett pistol whipping the senator, other than that I was disappointed.moreless

    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Goof: When Ryan goes to Beckett's apartment, he shows her an old picture of Smith, which is a copy of the photo that was missing from Capt Montgomery's wedding album, in which Smith is standing in the left of the photo with his right hand facing the camera, holding a wine glass. After Ryan leaves, Beckett and Castle discuss who Smith could be with Castle brandishing a different picture of Smith. This photos shows Smith standing nearer the right of the photo with his left hand facing the camera, now holding a champagne glass, and wearing the watch that ultimately identifies him (". .. a Nautilus 3800", Castle says, "... when it came out in 1981.") clearly visible. Also, previous shots of the wedding album in other episodes, and this as well, depict all the photos in landscape format, whereas the pictures of Smith seen here are in portrait format.

      • Goof: When Martha enters Castle's bedroom, Beckett is hiding in the closet with with a pillow clutched in front of her. The previous scene showed the other pillows on the bed. When Martha leaves the room, Castle ducks as a thrown pillow flies by. It's not shown who throws the pillow but it's implied that Beckett threw it. The problem is with the scene that follows where you can see that Beckett in the closet is still clutching the pillow in front of her.

    • QUOTES (4)

      • Castle: (after Esposito hands Beckett his backup extra gun) Nice! What about for me?
Esposito: What? You mean an extra extra piece?

      • Beckett: Whoever it is you think I am, whatever it is you think you know about me, you have no idea what I'm capable of or how far I will go. I am done being afraid. It's your turn now. (hits him with her gun)
        Senator Bracken: Agh!
Beckett: That's gonna leave a nasty scar. Every time you see it, think of me.

      • Castle: (about her first hangover) Well, Alexis, as your father, I have to say, that I am... deeply disappointed in you, and yet, oddly proud.

      • Capt. Gates: Let's say you happened to be in the area. How do you explain the fact that Maddox, the killer we're searching for and the man who shot you last year, is the one lying there dead?
        Castle: Bad karma.
