Are those ratings necessarily bad considering all factors?

CSI is of course gonna be No. 1. No. 2 isn't bad and these are basically what the show averaged last season. If they hold steady, I say it's reason to celebrate.

    Episode 2x02 (Sep 28 ): #2 in viewers & demos

    9.56 million viewers
    18-49 demo rating/share: averaged 2.3/6

Ck Marc Berman's write up at MediaWeek for the 1/2 hr breakdown but remember DWTS which ran 2 mins into 10pm will strip away some of those viewer numbers.

Competition: CBS CSI:Miami (#1 in viewers & demo) & The Jay Leno Show.

I'd really like it if they moved Castle to another day even though it's doing quite well where it is. I love the show but I also love CSI Miami and I hate when my shows are competing for ratings/viewers.

I have the same problem but other nights are just as crowded so I'd hate to tempt fate by moving it.

Going up against CSI Miami is actually not a bad idea for Castle right now. I'm pretty sure CSI Miami's numbers are down, and I think creatively the show's in a bit of a rut(of course, I've always considered it the weakest of the three, especially the acting). Leno's numbers started mediocre and got worse, and NBC doesn't appear to be in any big rush to get them back up. Fox just runs local news at 10pm, so CBS is Castle's only real competition. DWTS is still a decent lead-in for them. Since Castle appears to have picked up a bit in the ratings the last few weeks, it's probably best if they just stay where they are and build in that spot for now. The big concern will be when DWTS gets to the end of their season and the Monday episodes aren't two hours long anymore. They get stuck with that gap that seems to get filled with junk. ABC's got Better Off Ted coming back Tuesday nights in December, why couldn't they put that in the Monday 9:30 spot when it opens up?

Castle is doing quite well in the ratings so I think it won't have a problem receiving a pick up for a third season which is good.
