This was definitely one of the best Castle epis this season!
The team investigates the murder of a DA known for his intolerant stance against criminals, who turns out to be implicated in a prostitution ring with call girls. Financially wrecked after his divorce, he prosecutes the boss of the call girl ring and makes a deal with him, to exchange his client list and resources for a very reduced sentence. So the DA takes over the business and runs a parallel life, until he is thrown out of the roof of a building. i loved the plot twist with Scarlet and how she had Castle and everyone else fooled, playing the terrified, abused girl routine. Obviously her beauty had something to do with her dazzling Castle, but mostly she was a good judge of character, she knew Castle would want to help a damsel in distress. It's certainly part of his charm but sometimes, it's also part of his naiveté. I figured out Scarlet was lying a little after she and Castle had left for the hospital, the whole routine was very believable but the fact remained, the whole impression Castle and Beckett formed of the case was based on Scarlet's word. There was no solid proof that things were as she presented them to be. Look at them from a different angle, they might as well be completely different.
I also loved the scenes with Jessup, especially in the car where Castle was wearing the handcuffs and Jessup was trying to teach him how to unlock them. When Beckett realized he was wearing them and went "I'm not even gonna ask", it was totally hilarious. Also, the scene with the DA's brother-in-law where he has to invite a call girl, and Castle says "tell her to wear something sexy. No reason not to enjoy the interview"... There were dozens of great lines in this epi, I'd need pages and pages to list them all, so I'm gonna stop here but you get the picture. Alexis is starting to see Beckett as a maternal figure, asking her for advice and so on. I've read that Alyssa Milano is going to guest the show as Beckett's competition for Castle, so that should be interesting to see. I wonder which side Alexis and Martha are going to take in the upcoming "battle".
Another pleasant surprise in this epi was the fact that the investigation started off as the murder of an impeccable, exemplary law enforcement officer and it ended up presenting a totally different side of him, one of corruption, deceit and hypocrisy. There's two sides to every coin and sometimes what seems extremely perfect might be too perfect to be true.
