Some days still look familiar, others get the wrecking ball; Suburgatory is not on the schedule yet.
"Watershed" capped off Castle's fifth season in the easiest, yet messiest possible way one could conceive.
Grey's Anatomy, Castle, and Suburgatory will also be back; Body of Proof, not so much.
Plus: TNT orders Sean Bean as a spy, NPH may hook up with Tony again, and a Young and the Restless legend passes away.
"The Human Factor" was one of the few this season that managed to keep me engaged both through the rapport between the characters AND a surprisingly intriguing mystery. Unfortunately, it didn't stick the landing.
There was no way that this relationship wasn't going to hit troubled waters eventually; I suppose I just wish the reason was something more interesting than "Castle isn't very open, and also he's kind of an inconsiderate doof on occasion."
CBS bumps tonight's Vegas, and Castle swaps a pair of episodes in light of recent events.
Plus: Giovanni Ribisi gets a new job, Don't Trust the B---- will air its final episodes online, and S.H.I.E.L.D. has a new name.
Not that I ever assumed this week's murder was ever anything but a decidedly human crime, but "The Fast and the Furriest" did at least manage to have some fun in splitting the team between its believers and skeptics.
Castle's 100th episode was a simple, sweet celebration of the character and the series. It was also an excuse for the show to go full Hitchcock in a cheeky, goofy tribute to the late, great master of suspense.
Kudos to Seamus Dever for taking an episode so barely conceived and running with it. He made Kevin Ryan a more interesting character, even if the writers failed to do the same.
When will The Neighbors lift off for the season? What about The Middle's end? We've got dates!
Beyond a few good laughs, "Scared to Death" might have been the worst episode of the season yet.
The "Target"/"Hunt" story arc was never anything but entertaining.
As big, crazy Castle arcs go, this one couldn't have kicked off much stronger.
For the most part, Castle and Beckett just got to enjoy each other's company this week amid a surprising amount of in-house character comedy.
Plus: Monday Mornings bombs, George R.R. Martin pacts with HBO, and Go On is hosting a Friends reunion.
I've made no secret of my general disdain for Castle's more serious episodes, so color me utterly flabbergasted that I found "Recoil" to be such an enjoyable diversion.
Esposito took the reins this week—no, not Esposito and Ryan, but single, solitary Esposito—and that right there is where everything went wrong.
After a few weeks away from television following that delightful little Christmas episode, Castle returned to the viscous mixture of relationship-hagglin' and procedural murder-solvin' that has largely dominated this season... and I think I'm maybe ready for a change of pace.
