Looney Tunes

Cartoon Network

Looney Tunes is a show that reruns classic cartoons featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Sylvester, Pepe le Pew, Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Foghorn Leghorn and more. These classic characters were featured in 1000+ theatrical cartoons and many prime-time specials made for TV as well as numerous classic cartoon excerpts. Looney Tunes was originally aimed at an adult audience when it aired for the first time in 1955, but unfortunately it was censored. It eventually became a show for children known as The Bugs Bunny Show in 1960, which aired on ABC. Looney Tunes made it's way to Nickelodeon along with numerous Warner Bros. classic cartoons including some of their oldest black-and-whites and almost their complete canon of '60s cartoons. This show started in 1988 and ended in 1999. Now, the Boomerang block on Cartoon Network is the only place in the US where you can still see these timeless classic characters and their animated antics.moreless

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a retelling of the story based off the manga, and is not directly related to the first Fullmetal Alchemist series. Edward and Alphonse Elric are two brothers living in a world where the practice of alchemy flourishes. After their mother passes away, the brothers work together to try and bring her back using alchemy, but without success. Their failure results in Edward losing his left leg and right arm, while Alphonse loses his entire body and has his soul attached to a suit of armor. Years later, they join the military for the opportunity to locate the Philosopher's Stone; the one thing that is capable of restoring their bodies. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! premiered on September 13, 1969. This cartoon introduced four kids and a dog named Scooby-Doo. These kids were Daphne Blake, Freddy Jones, Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, and their mascot. They traveled around in a green van known as "The Mystery Machine" and solved many scary mysteries along the way. In 1972, this show became The New Scooby-Doo Movies, which were hour-long episodes in which the gang teamed up with famous animated stars and celebrites to solve mysteries. This format aired until 1973. Scooby-Doo was so popular to Hanna-Barbara that it spawned many different cartoon series throughout the 1970's and the early 1980's. These shows were as follows: The Scooby-Doo Show, a revamped format of this show, Scooby and Scrappy-Doo, which introduced the character Scrappy-Doo, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, and the last incarnation, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, which featured the cast as kids. The Scooby Doo Show premiered on ABC in September 1976 as part of The Scooby-Doo-Dynomutt Hour, in which new episodes of Scooby Doo shared an hour with a superhero dog named Dynomutt. It was a revamped version of Scooby Doo, Where Are You? which started on CBS in 1969. In September of 1977, The Scooby-Doo Show once again shared an hour with The All-Star Laff-A-Lympics,which placed Scooby's team, Yogi's team, and Dread Baron's team competing to win points for their team. Star Trek: The Animated Series

NBC (ended 1974)

This is the further adventures of the Star Trek series in a half-hour animated form. This show basically continues the adventures of the original series (presumably in the fourth year of the five-year mission), but takes advantage of the unlimited special effects provided by animation to introduce more alien crewmen (the felinoid M'Ress and the tripedal Arex) as well as introduce more elaborate adventures like an underwater adventure, the miniaturization of the crew to 1 cm., and the appearance of a giant fire-breathing two-headed dragon. The show is currently not considered "canon" by Paramount and the folks associated with the various subsequent TV shows. However, elements of the animated series have been used in subsequent shows (Sarek refers to the events of "Yesteryear" in TNG's "Reunification Pt. 1") and the Enterprise-D's holodeck seems to have been in part inspired by the holodeck we see in "Practical Joker". Also, writers such as Peter David have used some elements from the animated series in the books and comics. Although produced on the cheap (note the incredibly static backgrounds, recycled animations, and the fact that James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, and Majel Barrett do about 95% of the guest voices), the script writing and concepts (mostly by writers from the original series) are generally of high quality (the show won an Emmy for best Children's Programming in '73) and the show is in many worthy of inclusion in the Trek annals.moreless

Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids

Live action bumpers featuring Bill Cosby were set around animated episodes of Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids, a series about a group of urban adolescents growing up in a Philadelphia neighborhood. The show was based on Cosby's '60s stand up comedy monologues about his childhood. The episodes revolved around the daily life lessons learned by Albert and his friends. Topics ranged from social issues to personal introspection and were blended with humor and music. Among the many great characters that inhabited Fat Albert's world were Rudy, Mushmouth, Donald, Bill, Weird Harold and Russell. In 1979 the show was re-titled The New Fat Albert Show and featured a new segment called The Brown Hornet, a send-up of superhero cartoons starring a larger-than-life African-American crime fighter in outer space. In 1984, the show was syndicated and renamed The Adventures of Fat Albert and the Cosby kids. It ended the same year. Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids enjoyed one of the longest careers in Saturday morning cartoon history. There are plans to release the whole series on DVD over the course of 2005. Super Friends

ABC (ended 1973)

SuperFriends was an animated series that premiered on ABC on September 8, 1973. The series was executive produced by the creative team of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The series featured the adventures of DC Comics book heroes Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. These five superheroes along with superheroes in training Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog focused their abilities on putting away criminals, saving lives, and stopping terrible disasters after getting messages from their computer, the "TroubAlert."

Each episode of the SuperFriends was geared to present, not only action, but also some lesson of educational value. In the short run of the series, a number of other famous DC comic book heroes appeared: Plastic Man, The Flash, and Green Arrow.

The last new episode of the series entitled "The Watermen" was broadcast on December 22, 1973. The show continued in reruns until it was taken off the air on August 30, 1974. Two years later, however, the series was rebroadcast from February 7, 1976 to September 3, 1977. In an enduring testament to the popularity of the SuperFriends characters, they were later featured in a number of spin-offs and revivals.

In 1977, the Hanna-Barbera produced sixty-two cartoon featuring the Superfriends. These cartoons were shown on ABC as part of The All-New SuperFriends Hour. Each hour long episode featured four cartoons (one half-hour cartoon and three seven minute shorts). The hour-long show featured adventures of the original fives superheroes from SuperFriends. Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog, however, did not appear. They were replaced by the shape-shifting Wondertwins Zan and Jayna and their space-monkey Gleek. The All-New SuperFriends Hour ran from September 10, 1977 to September 2, 1978 and was replaced in the next season by Challenge of the SuperFriends and SuperFriends (1978).

Challenge of the SuperFriends was one of the most popular incarnations of SuperFriends that featured the Justice League of America against the Legion of Doom. This half-hour series ran for sixteen episodes from September 9, 1978 to September 15, 1979. It was accompanied in its run by SuperFriends (1978) which also presented sixteen half-hour episodes from September 9, 1978 to September 15, 1979. These episodes featured the same characters as The All-New SuperFriends Hour in further adventures.

In 1979, Hanna-Barbera discontinued Challenge of the SuperFriends. Reruns of old SuperFriends episodes were mixed with eight new episodes and were presented under the new title The World's Greatest SuperFriends. The World's Greatest Superfriends was a hour long series that ran from September 22,1 979 to September 27, 1980.

In the 1980's, SuperFriends continued in a number of incarnations. From September 1980 to September 1984, Hanna-Barbara produced sixty-six seven minute shorts (see Superfriends (1980)). Twenty-Four of these shorts were shown in the 1980-1981 season, accompanied by SuperFriend's reruns, under the title The Superfriends Hour. In the 1981-1982 season, sixteen new shorts were presented as a part of the half-hour long Superfriends. These new shorts were, of course, accompanied by reruns. The 1982-1983 season, however, was all reruns. Although Hanna-Barbara produced twenty-four new SuperFriends shorts, ABC decided to show only reruns of the SuperFriends in a thirty minute program entitled The Best of SuperFriends. Most of the unaired shorts (called by some "The Lost Episodes"), however, would later air in syndication.

The 1984-1985 season, new half-hour SuperFriends episodes would return to ABC under the title SuperFriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show. SuperFriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show was a half-hour sixteen episode cartoon that featured Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and the Teen Titans Firestorm and Cyborg. In the 1985-1986 season, these same characters would appear along with Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, and Samurai in the half-hour The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians. This final incarnation of Hanna-Barbara's SuperFriends offered ten new episodes. On September 30, 1986 with the end of the last episode of The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians, Hanna-Barbara's twelve year run of original SuperFriends episodes was over. The SuperFriends, however, would continue to live on in syndication.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch: The Complete Animated Series

ABC (ended 2000)

The show was made in 1999. It is the spin-off to Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, the sitcom. This cartoon was completely different from the show itself. It featured our main character Sabrina except as a 12 year-old in Jr. High School just developing her powers. Her best friends are Chloe Flan and Harvey Dwight Kinkle. Chloe is the only mortal that knows that Sabrina is a witch, and Harvey is still Sabrina's secret crush. Together they have many adventures. Her rival is Gem Stone, the equivalent of Libby Chessler from the original show, and is incredibly rich. She still has the same aunts: Hilda and Zelda Spellman except they are teenagers, and she has an additional household member, Uncle Quigley. In this show even though Sabrina has her magic, she relies on a Spookie Jar to sometimes to help her cast spells. All of these characters help make the show as great as it was. Unfortunately Sabrina, the Teenage Witch was still greater so the show ended with only one season of 65 episodes. Though it has ended, it still is a great addition in Sabrina history and Viacom productions. However it wasn't the end for Sabrina: the show was slightly brought back in Oct. 2002 as a Nickelodeon TV-Movie! Sabrina the Animated Series: Friends Forever. Trivia(Not Goofs) -Did you know that this series was so popular that WB ended up making another spin-off called Sabrina's Secret Life -This series suffered the same fate of many Disney series, with only 65 episodes -Salem appeared in every single episode of this series -Hilda and Zelda are both voiced by Melissa Joan Hart, who played Sabrina in Sabrina: The Teenage Witch -Uncle Quiggley was created for this series, and only appears again in the spin-off Sabrina's Secret Life, but never is even mentioned in Sabrina The Teenage Witch DVD Release There is currently a DVD release in North America and Europe. Each DVD comes with 4 episodes and introductions by Melissa Joan Hart. The Pink Panther Show

In 1963, movie director Blake Edwards asked David H. DePatie and Friz Freleng (who had just opened their cartoon studio, DePatie-Freleng) to design a character for the opening titles of his movie, "The Pink Panther". Of many drawings, Edwards selected the cool design by Hawley Pratt. The opening of the movie became so famous that United Artists, the distributor of the movie, told them to make a cartoon series with the character. The cartoon series started in 1964 and became very successful, the first short called "The Pink Phink" won an Academy Award. After the success of the Pink Panther cartoons, DePatie and Freleng introduced other cartoon series like "The Inspector" and "Roland and Rattfink", however, none of them became as famous as their first creation. The last theatrically released Pink Panther cartoon, "Therapeutic Pink", was made in 1977. More cartoons were made in 1978-1979, for television distribution.

In 1984, DePatie-Freleng was already gone so Hanna-Barbera made a new cartoon series "The Pink Panther and Sons". It wasn't successful and it was cancelled soon. In September 1993, a new half-hour series made for syndication by MGM Television Animation premiered. It was simply called "The Pink Panther". In these new cartoons, Pink Panther spoke. He was voiced by Matt Frewer. In this show, two other classic DePatie-Freleng cartoons, The Ant and the Aardvark and The Dogfather were revived. New characters, Voodoo Man and Manly Man were introduced. This show ended in May 1995, after only two seasons.

The New Scooby-Doo Movies

After the original run of Scooby-Doo Where Are You (1969-70), Hanna-Barbera continued the success of the great dane and his mystery-solving sidekicks Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, and Velma in their first spinoff series The New Scooby-Doo Movies which debuted about two years later on the CBS Saturday morning schedule. The formula remained the same as they investigated several mysteries, resulting in the capture and unmasking of a ghost or monster as a villain in disguise making efforts to carry out some nefarious plot. However, there were two significant differences. First, the episodes were double the length of the original series (about 45 minutes without commercials), and second, the gang was joined by a number of guest stars, from real life celebrities like Sonny and Cher, Jonathan Winters, and Jerry Reed, to fictional characters like the Addams Family, and even crossovers with characters from other H-B series, including Jeannie, Josie and the P u s s y cats, and Speed Buggy. The majority of episodes in this series had two titles. The official titles are the ones primarily listed here at TV.com. The secondary titles are usually seen as "Scooby-Doo Meets _____________", which will be listed in episode notes. But there were exceptions for those episodes in which certain stars appeared multiple times, as the episodes featuring the Three Stooges, Batman and Robin, Don Knotts, and the Harlem Globetrotters only had one title. Overall, this was a fun and entertaining series and it was pretty cool to see Scooby and the gang interact with favorite stars from the old era. From the real life celebrities, to superheroes, and even their fellow H-B stars, the Scooby gang was always bound to have a grand adventure working alongside guest stars traveling the country and solving mysteries. This series, created back in the 1970's is still a popular video and DVD release thirty years later! Now each of the 3 seasons can be bought in 3 sets. Each season featured a season long story along with great characterization and adventure, drama and humor! It is the primary series on which many later anime series are based, and sometimes copied. In fact the 2003 season of Star Trek Enterprise apparently adapted many of the best aspects of this series as both shows feature planet Earth in grave danger, and a single spaceship and its brave crew sent to another part of the cosmos to find a solution to the danger that threatens the very existence of humanity! Each season features a new danger and new storyline the crew of the Space Battleship Yamato, called the Argo in English versions, must face as they get closer to their goal! Each season had a new storyline and are given the following series titles on video and DVD sets. Season 1 "The Quest for Iscandar" Season 2 "The Comet Empire" Season 3 "The Bolar Wars" Several movies, both compilations and originals, were made in the late 70's & 80's as well! Spider-Man (1967)

The primary signature character for Marvel Comics, "Spider-Man," is the alter-ego of Peter Parker, science student at a New York City university. While witnessing a radiology experiment on one fateful day, Peter is bitten on his hand by a spider exposed to the radioactive field generated by the experiment and later finds that he has acquired the spider's wall-scaling, leaping, and extra-sensory abilities, in addition to increased endurance and strength. Peter knits for himself a red-and-blue costume and mask and produces a web-spinning fluid enabling him to swing from building to building above the streets of Manhattan. Peter's Uncle Ben is murdered by a burglar, a criminal who earlier ran past Peter at a television studio to which Peter had come to exhibit his spider-abilities. Peter selfishly declined to help the police to stop the fleeing malefactor and is to a significant extent responsible for the death of his uncle. Peter, in his Spiderman guise, finds, punches, and webs the murderer. Now aware that he has received his powers for a higher purpose than exhibition for monetary gain, Peter accepts his duty as a costumed fighter of crime, a responsibility that he vows never again to fail. To financially support his Aunt May, Ben's widow, Peter becomes a freelance photographer for the Daily Bugle newspaper as an aside to his continued studies and his responsibility as Spiderman to the good people of New York City. Peter does not allow anyone, not even his aunt, to know that he is Spiderman. The Daily Bugle publisher, a cigar-smoking, self-righteous, blustery chauvinist named J. Jonah Jameson, has a jaundiced view of Spiderman's heroism and wields considerable influence with the city government and police force. So, Spidey must constantly be wary of the police whom he is helping, usually retaining the villains that he catches in a web for police to apprehend after he has left the capture scene, and attaching a note with an appropriate pun in regard to the crook and which says that the capture was courtesy of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman". Peter often uses his intimate involvement with his alter-ego's pursuit of villains to obtain exclusive photographs of the criminals, their evil deeds, and their capture, and provides the photographs to an incredulous Jameson, who, though he prints the pictures, usually manages to negatively spin-doctor Spiderman's involvement and magnify his own importance, much to Spidey's good-natured annoyance and the objection of Spidey's admirer and Peter's friend, Betty Brant, Jameson's feisty secretary. Meanwhile, in Peter's continued university life, he encounters eccentric professors whose unauthorized, dangerous experiments result in calamity that only Spiderman can remedy, and he experiences frustration with girl-friends who accuse him of cowardice every time that he must leave them in the midst of a dire situation so that he can privately change into Spiderman. Spiderman is the creation of Marvel Comics' founder Stan Lee and one of the earliest super-heroes to be featured in graphically illustrated magazines, or comic books, under the Marvel Comics name. Perhaps the most famous aspect to the 1967-1970 Spiderman is its opening and closing theme song, which was performed by a vocal group to lyrics written by Paul Francis Webster and quick-tempo instrumentals performed by Bob Harris, published by Buddah Music, Inc.. In May 2002, a live-action Spider-Man movie was released starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, and the villian The Green Goblin. Battle of The Planets

Battle of the Planets follows the adventures of the teenaged hero team G-Force. Mark, Jason, Princess, Keyop, and Tiny travel in The Phoenix to battle the evil forces of Zoltar from Planet Spectra. G-Force is guided by Chief Anderson and 7-Zark-7, but also receives help from Colonel Cronos, President Kane, Susan, and even 1-Rover-1. They are based in Center Neptune, which is far beneath the sea off the west coast of the United States. Although it has never been officially established, it's thought that the show takes place in 2001. This show is the first English translation version of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. The second English version was known as G-Force: Guardians of Space. For fans that loved this show as children, this is a great time! For 15 years, we couldn't find anything on the show. Now, everywhere you look, there's Battle of the Planets! This is the 25th Anniversary DVD release of Battle of the Planets episodes. This follows seven prior DVD releases. School House Rock

The soundtrack to Multiplication Rock was released on LP (Capitol 11174) in 1973 and on CD (Capitol 91253) in 1989. The discs are in stereo, but missing some foley from the broadcast versions. (see also reissues and covers) Filmstrips and 16mm films of Multiplication Rock, Grammar Rock, America Rock and Science Rock (hereafter The Big Four) were available to schools and libraries from Xerox Films. The film prints (and possibly the filmstrips) came with teachers' aides which included lyrics, questions for students and activities. In 1987 The Big Four were released by Golden Book Video on four VHS tapes. Cloris Leachman and "a group of young friends" sang and danced to new between-segment songs not produced by the original team. The tapes were missing The Good Eleven, Little Twelvetoes, and Three-Ring Government and America Rock was renamed History Rock. The videos were re-released on VHS (Aug. 8, 1995) and laserdisc (Dec. 13, 1995) by Capital Cities/ABC Video Publishers, restoring the missing segments and removing Ms. Leachman and friends. CD-ROMs and at least two music folios were released in 1996. Released Apr. 9, 1996 School House Rock! Rocks featured new versions of SHR songs performed by contemporary rock stars. School House Rock, the Box Set was released June 18, 1996 and featured 41 songs on 4 CDs. Disc 1 featured the stereo versions of Multiplication Rock plus a bonus track, My Hero, Zero by The Lemonheads. Discs 2-4 featured mono versions of the songs (probably directly from film) except The Preamble which is in stereo, and Verb which has an extremely small amount of separation. Episodes made in the 1990s were made in stereo and are presented in stereo in the box. The four discs were released separately, minus The Lemonheads track, on Apr. 1, 1997. Another tribute album, School House Rocks the Vote was released Aug. 18, 1998. It featured various artists covering School House Rock songs. Among the artists were Grady Tate singing Messin' with My Bill of Rights!, I'm Just a Bill by Joan Osborne and South Park's Isaac Hayes, and The Campaign Trail by Bob Dorough. A sampler CD, The Best of School House Rock was released Nov. 3, 1998, featuring songs by the original artists. I Got Six was named Best Picture of 1973 by ASIF-East, a chapter of the International Animated Film Association. Multiplication Rock received honors from Action for Children's Television. Bob Dorough received an Grammy nomination in 1974 for the Multiplication Rock LP, probably for Best Recording for Children (the winner was Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too). Most impressive was SHR's 4 Emmys, beating out shows like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood Each discipline has been given its own season. Only one group dares to challenge this inter-galactic threat - The SuperFriends! Challenge is a sequel to the two earlier Super Friends shows. It drops Zan and Jayna from the previous incarnation and makes several "guest stars" full members of the Justice League, giving us a membership of Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, Hawkman, Flash, Green Lantern, Black Vulcan, Samurai, and Apache Chief. Pitted against them are some real villains - the Legion of Doom: 13 of the most powerful supervillains from "remote galaxies" (well, 12 + Black Manta... :) ). Who are they? Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Solomon Grundy, the Riddler, the Scarecrow, Bizarro, Cheetah, Black Manta, Giganta, Gorilla Grodd, Sinestro, Captain Cold, and the Toyman. Okay, everyone but Brainiac, Sinestro, and Bizarro was from Earth (most of the gang is from Kansas City, we think), but "remote galaxies" sounded more impressive. Scooby and Scrappy-Doo

Scooby and Scrappy-Doo premiered on September 22, 1979. This cartoon introduced another character to the cast: Scooby's nephew Scrappy-Doo, whose main purpose was to splat ghosts while the gang tries to run away from them. In November 1980, this show was known as The Richie Rich/Scooby Doo Hour, which only featured Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy in three 7-minute short segments, and was shared with Richie Rich, the adventures of Richie Rich and his dog Dollar and his robotic maid. These shows shared an hour for two seasons. In 1982, Scooby and Scrappy Doo shared an hour with a cartoon about Pete the Puppy and his friends and also had three short segments, the third being a Yabba-Doo cartoon, one of Scooby-Doo's cousins who lived in the Wild West. This show was known as The Scooby-Doo/Puppy Hour. The show was revamped as The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy Doo Show in September 1983, and brought Daphne back to join Shaggy and the dogs in solving mysteries. This cartoon consisted of two segments, and was often combined with repeats from previous seasons. Hong Kong Phooey

Hong Kong Phooey was a Saturday morning cartoon created by Hanna-Barbera back in 1974. There were only 16 episodes that ever aired on the television network, ABC. After the show was cancelled, NBC purchased the rights to re-air the original 16 episodes from 1977 to 1979.

The show is about a janitor named Penrod "Penry" Pooch, who works along with Sarge and Rosemary at the local police station. Whenever Penry overhears a crime being committed, he "jumps" into action. Actually, it's a filing cabinet that Penry jumps into. But shortly after, out comes Hong Kong Phooey. Ready to put the criminals where they belong-- Jail!

But to get to the crime scene, he uses the Phooeymobile. This vehicle can change into anything Hong Kong Phooey needs it for (Car, boat...), with a swift "bong of the gong."

But as we know, for every great superhero, there is the superhero's trusty side-kick. And for Hong Kong Phooey, this would be Spot, a cat who can't speak, only mumbles/grumbles at everything he knows Honk Kong Phooey is doing wrong..... which is EVERYTHING! So, even though we secretly know Spot may be the smart one here... Hong Kong Phooey is the one given the credit in the end.moreless

Davey and Goliath

This classic series is about the adventures of a boy and his dog. This classic kids show, created by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America provided entertainment, comedy, and moral lessons for young children. Although the scripts for this show were written by the Lutheran church of America, the team Art and Gloria Clokey (best known for their hit "Gumby") did all the claymation. Art and Gloria were thrilled to do this especially because they felt that it would be their way of contributing what children need to hear. This is a gem, and in 2003/2004 it is scheduled to return with all new shows.moreless

Based on the books by Elizabeth Beresford, this animated series follows a group of creatures living in Wimdeldon Common who spend their time picking up litter left by humans.

At the head of the group is Great Uncle Bulgaria who mans the burrow and sends out his fellow wombles.

The original series aired in 1973 for the BBC and a second series was commissioned 1996 for ITV.
