"Growing Up is the Greatest Adventure of All" Welcome to the Caillou guide at TV.com! This show is about the life of a young bald boy named Caillou, his family and his friends. It is based on the books by Christine L'Heureux and Helene Despeteaux, which is highly popular in the Quebec area in Canada. There are actually two versions of the show. The first version premiered in late 1997, is only 5 minutes in length, consists of 65 episodes, and is fully animated. The plotline of this version is that a grandmother reads her grandchildren a Caillou book. While this version enjoys success in some countries outside the US, it was never formally aired in the US. The second version, which premiered in late 2000, has the show exended to 30 minutes, and has puppets, music and live action segments thrown in. The animation parts, however, are a mixture of the first version of the show with the "grandma reading to kids" part of the story lopped off and some new stories (the stories are completely original as of the U.S. second season.) You can usually tell when you're watching a story lifted from the first version because in these, Caillou wears a non-descript dull-grey shirt rather than the bright-yellow one he wears in the newer segments. It premiered in the US and is now airing side-by-side with repeats of the old version in Canada. It is also aired around the world, although some parts of the world still air the old version. In 2006, Caillou debuted even more new episodes. These new episodes now feature fantasy segments, but no longer any puppet segments or musical numbers performed by real children. Instead, Caillou performs a song in-between the second and third story segments of each episode. These new episodes have now finished their run, but if you missed any, watch for upcoming repeats on PBS. Both versions of the show are known to be available in 2 languages - French and English. The show is produced by Cookie Jar animation in Canada, known in older seasons as CINAR. It is available in Dolby Surround and with Close Captioning on selected networks. Note 1:The old (5-minute) version is listed in this guide as Season 1 episodes, while the new (30-minute) version are listed as episodes from Season 2 onwards. Also, due to the varying runtimes, the runtime entry is omitted on purpose. Note 2: The network in the information section was formerly Teletoon, as this was the first network to pick up the show. It has been changed to PBS to reflect that the airdates listed in the guide for the newer (and current) episodes of show reflect the dates that the program aired on PBS. Note 3: The new version is aired under the title "Caillou and Friends" on TeleToon Canada. This is done presumably to avoid title conflicts with the old version of the show. Note 4: Season 3-4/2-3US no longer contain any edited versions of first season episodes. They instead consist entirely of original stories.moreless

"Superman" was an animated series that premiered on September 6, 1996. Created to follow the success of "Batman: The Animated Series," and based on the popular Superman comics created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the cartoon series focused on the adventures of Superman, an incredibly powerful crime fighter from the planet Krypton, who defends Metropolis from a variety of supercriminals that include Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Metallo, The Parasite, Livewire, The Toyman, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Bizarro, Darkseid, Lobo, Jax-Ur, and Mala. Superman's secret identity is that of Clark Kent, a mild-mannered reporter for the newspaper "The Daily Planet". There he worked with fellow reporter Lois Lane and photographer Jimmy Olsen.

The series opened with an hour and a half long special that featured the exploits of Superman's Kryptonian father, Jor-El, who was attempting to save their planet from a world-wide catastrophe which the planet's artificial intelligence system, Brainiac, was trying to cover up, and continued through Superman's first public appearance in Metropolis. In later seasons, the show featured guest appearances by a variety of other famous comic book heroes including Supergirl, Batman, Robin, The Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Dr. Fate, Steel, and The New Gods. In 1997, episodes of "Superman" were broadcast alongside episodes of "The New Batman Adventures" and reruns of "Batman: the Animated Series" under the title "The New Batman/Superman Adventures".moreless

    Garfield & Friends

    Follow
    CBS (ended 1994)
Based on the highly popular comic strip by Jim Davis, Garfield and Friends was considered the best long-running cartoon on CBS. This Saturday morning series featured the adventures of that lovable, hungry fat cat Garfield, his yellow dog friend Odie, and their cartoonist bachelor master Jon Arbuckle. Garfield cartoons shared the spot with a new cartoon series created for this series called U.S. Acres (also based on a comic strip by Jim Davis). U.S. Acres was a cartoon about a group of barnyard animals who run a farm. The leader was Orson Pig, the bookish and perceptive pig. His friends had many different qualities: Wade Duck was the scaredy-cat duck who runs away from everything, no kidding; Booker was a crafty little chick whose main goal was to chase a worm, and his brother Sheldon was nothing more than an egg with two legs sticking out; Roy Rooster was the practical joking rooster who puts everyone in trouble with his jokes; and two sheep, Bo and Lanolin, were always bickering with each other about nearly everything. Bo being a nice guy and Lanolin a cruel girl. Each episode, they had to protect the farm from Orson's big bad brothers and a crafty weasel. Before this series, Garfield cartoons were shown as yearly specials on CBS, and the specials were so great that CBS decided to turn Garfield into a cartoon series. In the first season, each 30-minute episode was packed with three 8-minute shorts, two Garfield shorts and one U.S. Acres short. In the second season, Garfield and Friends expanded to an hour, consisting of four Garfield cartoons and two U.S. Acres cartoons. It remained at this format until the show ended in 1994. 'Garfield:The Movie' was released on June 11,2004 & so far has made over $75 million at the box office. Thanks to the success of the movie, 20th Century Fox is now working on a CGI/live action movie version of 'Alvin & The Chipmunks' & coming to theathers on December 25th is 'Fat Albert', which is of course a live action version of the classic 1974-1984 cartoon 'Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids'. Twelve-year-old Ryoma Echizen joins the Seishun Gakuen Middle School tennis team, known for being one of the most competitive teams in Japan. Freshmen rarely have a chance to actually play during their first year, but Ryoma's cool confidence, combined with a deadly, un-returnable "twist serve," gain him a coveted starting spot. With rigorous and extremely intense practices, the upperclassmen of the team expect the very best from themselves, and expect even more from the new members of the team. He's made the cut but can he survive the intense competition? Join Ryoma and other first year players, as they train hard, make friends, and try to find a place for themselves on the team. Ryoma's cute but chronically shy classmate, Sakuno Ryuzaki, also has problems of her own as she hopes he will notice her. Ryoma Echizen is The Prince of Tennis. He may be ready for the Seishun Gakuen tennis team, but are they ready for him?

The exciting backdrop of high school tennis serves as the setting for the sports drama and coming-of-age story, The Prince of Tennis, or Tennis no Ōjisama (テニスの王子様). From creator Takeshi Konomi, the manga and anime depict the life and adventures of Ryoma Echizen, both on the court and off of it. The series has becomes one of the most popular manga and anime titles to hit Japan. In Japan, the manga is published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump (and is still ongoing), and in North America (and in English), it is published by VIZ Media as a Shonen Jump graphic novel series.

The anime aired its final episode in 2005 on TV Tokyo in Japan. On this side of the hemisphere, The Prince of Tennis anime series is slated to air on Cartoon Network's new online broadband service called Toonami Jetstream on July 17 2006.

General Note on Airdates: The Prince of Tennis airs on Cartoon Network and Viz's broadband service, Toonami Jetstream and on Toonami. Even though TV.com has broadband shows in its database, the airdates and the titles for each episode are that of it's U.S. regular Toonami airing. The Japanese titles and airdates, and the Jetstream airdates can be found in their respective episodes ONLY when dub info (titles and airdates) have been revealed.

Popularity of the Franchise: The series is extremely popular in Japan. In addition to the manga and anime, there is a half-hour weekly radio show, over 100 music CDs and Drama CDs, several games, an animated movie and a live action movie, a five episode OVA, a number of live-action musicals, and much, much more.
