From Steven Bochco Productions comes an innovative take on the modern police drama. The lead character, New York Detective Jim Dunbar, was blinded in a shootout when his partner failed to cover him. He could have retired with a full pension after his injury, but instead fought to remain on the job, determined to prove he still has what it takes and be an asset. Now, following his reinstatement, he is assigned to a new precinct where he intends to take on cases with the help of his guide dog, Hank. On his first day back on the job, he meets Detectives Tom Selway (Reno Wilson) and Marty Russo (Frank Grillo), both hardboiled New York cops. Russo is especially skeptical at the outset, bent on humiliating Dunbar and seeing him fail. In addition, there's Karen Bettancourt (Marisol Nichols), a Homicide detective who's been working with Selway and Russo for eight months on a serial murder case. Though all the detectives are impressed by Dunbar's heroism, demonstrated during the events that led to his being blinded, they are angry he has returned and incredulous at his belief that he can still work the streets and carry a loaded gun. Bettancourt in particular has reservations, which are compounded by the knowledge of Dunbar's past affair with her friend. As a result, when Lieutenant Fisk (Michael Gaston) - who reluctantly agreed to give Dunbar a chance to prove himself - partners him with Bettancourt, she is furious. Dunbar's wife, Christie (Rena Sofer) has stuck by him throughout his debilitating ordeal and supports him in his moment of need. However she has doubts about their marriage based on Dunbar's past infidelities, and begins to question why she stays, noting his tendency to take her for granted.moreless

Welcome to the North Shore guide. North Shore is a lush drama that captures the passion, intrigue and heart of Hawaii. This 20-something ensemble series is set at the Grand Waimea, a luxury hotel, where Jason Matthews (Kristoffer Polaha, America's Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story) is the popular general manager and his ex-girlfriend Nicole Booth (Brooke Burns, Shallow Hal) is the newly hired head of guest relations, having left her father's hotel empire to make her own way in the business – and in life. Working side by side causes much tension between them, but their romantic relationship may be far from over. Just as interesting as the hotel's clientele is its staff, which is filled with friends, thrill-seekers, former con artists and dreamers in paradise. Waitress MJ Bevans (Nikki DeLoach, Misery Loves Company), Jason's surrogate little sister and roommate, is just waiting for her t-shirt design business to blossom into a fashion empire. Chris Remsen (Jay Kenneth Johnson, Days of Our Lives) runs an adventure company that caters to Waimea guests and bartender Frankie Seau (Jason Momoa, Baywatch) keeps those guests well-lubricated while trying to hide a mysterious past. And let's not forget Gabriel Miller (Corey Sevier, Black Sash), the young lifeguard trying to carve out a surfing career, or Tessa Lewis (Amanda Righetti, The O.C.), a former con artist who's now putting her skills to use as the Waimea's concierge. North Shore delves into relationships among the recurring characters, with the added intrigue of stories about the hotel's affluent and powerful guests. Intrigue and excitement await every guest at the Grand Waimea. Just ask the staff. Southland

    Southland

    Follow
    NBC (ended 2013)
Southland has redefined the police drama genre with its raw, authentic look at the lives and work of Los Angeles detectives and beat cops. Shot on location in the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles, the series captures a realistic, natural environment where similar situations can and often do occur in real life. Created by Ann Biderman, executive producers are John Wells and Christopher Chulack. Southland is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Southland was a short midseason replacement series used by NBC to plug the hole at Thursday 10:00 pm left by the end of ER. While its viewership never matched ER’s heyday, the numbers were strong enough to give it a nod for a second 13-episode season that was announced by the network on May 1, 2009, three weeks before the end of the first season. Unfortunately, the show’s fortunes changed over the summer. The transition of the Tonight Show to Conan O’Brien’s hands left Jay Leno as a free agent. NBC President and CEO Jeff Zucker, determined not to lose Leno to a competing network, gave Leno a nightly variety show that would air Monday through Friday at 10:00 pm. This displaced a number of heavy-duty dramas like Law & Order: SVU and Southland which would be moved to 9:00 pm slots – before television’s safe harbor. On August 25, 2009, NBC announced they were pushing back the season two premiere from September 25, 2009, to October 23, 2009 (a Friday at 9:00 pm berth). NBC claimed the move was for the good of the show, taking it out of direct competition with the season premieres of Medium – newly moved to Fridays – and Dollhouse. On October 8, 2009, though, NBC cancelled the show. Press reports at the time said the network felt the show was too "dark and gritty." The decision also left the network with six filmed-but-unaired episodes of season two.

John Wells and WB Television determined not to give up on the show. After NBC reduced its fees for the unaired episodes, they were free to shop it to other networks. TNT was rumored as the interested network by the end of October 2009, and on November 2, 2009, TNT made it official with a press release. It purchased the rights to the six-episode second season and the previously aired first season for a run in early 2010. A decision on a third season funded by TNT would be ratings dependent. TNT ultimately renewed Southland for three more seasons because of a very loyal fan base and critical acclaim. It announced the show's cancellation on May 10, 2013, three weeks after the fifth season finale.

Seasons one through three of Southland starred Arija Bareikis as Officer Chickie Brown, Michael Cudlitz as Officer John Cooper, Jenny Gago as Det. Josie Ochoa, Shawn Hatosy as Det. Sammy Bryant, Regina King as Det. Lydia Adams, Michael McGrady as Det. Daniel "Sal" Salinger, Ben McKenzie as Officer Ben Sherman, and Tom Everett Scott as Det. Russell Clarke. Season four starred Michael Cudlitz as Officer John Cooper, Shawn Hatosy as Officer Sammy Bryant, Regina King as Det. Lydia Adams, and Ben McKenzie as Officer Ben Sherman, reflecting a reduced budget. In season five, C. Thomas Howell as Officer Billy "Dewey" Dudek was promoted to regular from recurring cast.

This show was originally shown by ITV2 in the UK (season one from September 27th 2007 till November 15th 2007). This first season was a huge success for ITV2 with up to two million viewers per episode. Early in 2008, US network Showtime was attracted by the show's success and bought the license to show two seasons in the US (20 episodes). The broadcast is scheduled to start on June 16th 2008. The second season will air on ITV2 starting September 11th 2008. More to the shows success: The controversial sex scenes also resulted in a nomination for best soft core production at the "UK Adult Film Awards" in 2007. But that's not all! The first season has also been nominated for the "Golden Rose TV award" in the category "best drama". Only weeks after the first series ended, ITV announced a second series, and production started in early 2008. The third series aired in early 2010 almost simultaneously on ITV2 and the US station SHO. In April 2010 reports claim there will be a fourth series for which Billie Piper will get £2m.moreless
