Warner Bros. follow-up to Tiny Toon Adventures was a show even nuttier than its predecessor. It originally ran every weekday afternoon and Saturday mornings on Fox for the first season, then moved to Saturday mornings on the (new at the time) WB permanently for the remaining seasons. The two Warner Brothers, talky Yakko and Liverpool-accented Wakko, and their Warner Sister, Dot ("I'm cute") had supposedly been created in the 1930s, but their cartoons were too screwball for the general public. The three Warners (all black with long ears, but no distinguishable species or breed) were locked up in the studio water tower until they escaped in the early 1990s. Yakko, Wakko, and Dot ran wild around the lot, pursued by studio CEO, Thaddeus Plotz, security guard, Ralph, studio psychiatrist, Dr. Scratchinsniff, and Scratchinsniff's buxom assistant, Hello Nurse (who didn't really have to do much pursuing, if you know what I mean. "Hellooooooo, Nurse!"). The show spat out pop culture references and throwaway visual gags with machine-gun rapidity, entertaining kids and adults alike. Also popular were the many songs and song parodies that graced the program. Various shorts rotated through the program, and characters often popped up randomly in other characters' segments. Among the supporting featurettes: "Pinky and the Brain" were a duo of lab rats, one goofy (Pinky), one bent on taking over the world (Brain). The Brain's best-laid plans always went astray, but he kept trying with Wile E. Coyote-like persistence. This was the most popular of the supporting segments, later spinning off into its own series. "Slappy Squirrel" was an aged cartoon star with a cranky temperament, plenty of anvils and dynamite, and a nephew named Skippy. "Mindy and Buttons" were a baby and dog, respectively. Cute, but mischievous, Mindy perpetually escaped from some sort of baby harness, playpen, etc., forcing Buttons to rescue her, sacrificing his own body in the process. "Goodfeathers" parodied mob movies with a trio of pigeons. And, yes, there was a Godpigeon. "Good Idea/Bad Idea" was an informative segment starring Mr. Skullhead ("Good Idea: smell the roses. Bad Idea: grab the roses.") "Chicken Boo" was a chicken who masqueraded as a human Santa Claus, sheriff, prom date, etc., but was always discovered at episode's end. "Rita and Runt" were a singing cat and dog team searching for a good home (and food). "Mime Time" showed a hapless mime practicing his art, which inevitably led to some painful physical consequences. "The Hip Hippos" were husband and wife Flavio and Marita, always concerned about being fat. "Minerva Mink" was a spoiled, but beautiful mink model who made male characters faint in about every episode. "Katie Ka-Boom" was a moody teen who exploded (literally) when things didn't go her way. Colin told stories about his friend Randy Beaman and his family. The show ran five seasons of original episodes, then reappeared as part of The Cat & Birdy Warneroonie Pinky Brainy Big Cartoonie Show. They're zany to the max!moreless

Cold Case stars Kathryn Morris (Minority Report, Mindhunters) as Lilly Rush, the lone female detective in the Philadelphia homicide squad who finds her calling when she's assigned to "cold cases" -- crimes that have never been solved. Previously, she used her instinctive understanding of the criminal mind on current murders. Now, she's interrogating witnesses whose lives and circumstances have since changed, making use of today's new science and finding fresh clues to solve cases that were previously unsolvable, all of which appeals to this smart, driven detective. She's also prepared for the consequences: that her work will open up old wounds and may lead suspects to commit new crimes. When she hits a dead-end, Lilly seeks advice from her respected mentor, Lt. John Stillman (John Finn, Catch Me If You Can). Also on the team are Det. Scotty Valens (Danny Pino, The Shield), Rush's confident and strong-willed partner; Det. Will Jeffries (Thom Barry, The Fast and the Furious), who's been around long enough to serve as Lilly's link to the past; and Det. Nick Vera (Jeremy Ratchford, Angel Eyes), a tough cop who's considered the go-to guy for getting a confession. Lilly makes it her business to ensure that no victim is ever forgotten. On the show's third season, former narcotics detective Kat Miller (Tracie Thoms, Wonderfalls, As If), a young and spunky girl, joins the team. Cold Case is created by Meredith Stiehm (ER, NYPD Blue). Executive producers -- in addition to Ms. Stiehm -- include such reigning entertainment industry names as Jerry Bruckheimer (The Amazing Race, CSI), Shaun Cassidy (Invasion, The Agency), and Jonathan Littman (The Amazing Race, Close to Home).moreless

    CBS (ended 2001)
Cordell Walker is a contemporary Texas Ranger working out of the Dallas office who believed in dealing with criminals the old-fashioned way--by beating them up. Despite the rules that governed the way law-enforcement officers were supposed to act. Walker's approach closely resembled the "eye for an eye" school of crime fighting. His partner is young Jimmy Trivette, who had grown up in the slums of Baltimore and used football as his ticket to a college education and a career with the Dallas Cowboys until he busted his shoulder. Despite Jimmy's belief in computers and scientific criminology, working with Walker, always seemed to leave him bruised and sore--when Walker was trying to get information or take people into custody it was more than likely there would be a fistfight or karate kicks. County Assistant D.A. Alex Cahill, his sometimes girlfriend, frowned on Walker's methods, even if they did get results. When not on duty Walker and the others hung out at C.D.'s, the saloon/restaurant owned by his buddy C.D. Parker, a former Ranger forced into early retirement after taking a bullet in the knee, who still provided help and advice on cases. Uncle Ray was the wise old Native American who had raised Walker. He died at the end of the 3rd season. Star Chuck Norris, former karate champion and movie star, played Walker in the deadpan unemotional style he used in most of his feature films. Nothing ever seemed to excite him, and the violence on the show had a cartoon quality about it. There was a surrealistic efficiency about Walker--he almost never broke sweat, got hurt, or wasted a blow--using violence because it was necessary but never glorying on it. This is Norris' first time in a TV series.moreless

The critically acclaimed and brilliantly funny drama from award-winning writer Paul Abbott features the Chatsworth Estate's Gallaghers, probably the UK's most dysfunctional family.

Head of the family, Frank, embarks on a series of adventures with his remarkably well-balanced children Fiona, Lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl and Liam - not forgetting the other two with Frank's valium-fuelled lover, Sheila. A shambolic family living on a Manchester estate, where eldest sister Fiona has to look after her five younger siblings after their mother's disappearance and their father became an alcoholic. After Fiona herself escapes, it's down to her twelve year old Sister Debbie to run the Gallagher household. With Sheila leaving and Monica's return it's a whole new ball game at the Gallagher residents, and it's not all plain sailing with Monica's estranged girlfriend Norma living in the van in the yard. No-ones life is ever going to be the same.

Now in its eighth series things are still as dysfunctional as ever on the Chatsworth Estate with, Frank and Libby trying to get married with Monica coming back on the scene, Mimi's a new mother once again but still has the task of having to find out ho the father is. Also, Karen and Jamie are trying to get on with their lives after all the recent events and, there's also a whole load of new people on the scene just waiting to cause mayhem.

Shameless is packed with sex, drugs, gratuitous violence, love and scams. Chaos ensues with more tales of how one extraordinary family goes about its normal everyday life.moreless

    (ended 1999)
The Emmy-winning Babylon 5 brought many exciting innovations to science fiction television. Computer-generated effects, five-year story arcs, and elaborate mythology made this series stand apart from what came before and point the next generation of sci-fi/fantasy series in bold new directions. This show realized creator J. Michael Straczynski's vision of creating a five-season novel for television. Its stories proved that one person can make a difference, that the choices we make (right or wrong, good or bad) have far-reaching consequences, and that humanity is far greater and nobler than given credit for being.

Babylon 5 is a five-mile long space station located in neutral space. Built by the Earth Alliance in the 2250s, it's goal is to maintain peace among the various alien races by providing a sanctuary where grievances and negotiations can be worked out among duly appointed ambassadors. A council made up of representatives from the five major space-faring civilizations - the Earth Alliance, Mimbari Federation, Centarui Republic, Narn Regime, and Vorlon Empire - work with the League of Non-Aligned Worlds to keep interstellar relations under control. Aside from its diplomatic function, Babylon 5 also serves as a military post for Earth and a port of call for travellers, traders, businessmen, criminals, and Rangers.

A floating city home to a quarter of a million humans and aliens is bound to experience problems; Babylon 5 has problems in abundance. Its senior staff of Earth Alliance officers - along with the most prominent members of the diplomatic community - deal with personal problems, cultural differences, threats to station security, and interstellar crises on a regular basis. Old prejudices and unresolved issues leftover from the Earth-Mimbari War and the Centauri occupation of Narn lead to unexpected developments. Pro-Human groups and a corrupt government make the Earth of the future far from paradise. Telepaths seek refuge from the militant Psi Corps while the Mars colony desires support in its bid for independence. And then there is the growing presence of Shadows in regions close by and on the Outer Rim of known space. Fate has decreed that Babylon 5 be crucial to deciding the outcome of all of these conflicts.moreless

Orbach's role later led into a short-lived spin-off, The Law & Harry McGraw.
