The first NHL game to be televised on Canadian Broadcasting Company was a game in Montreal on Oct. 11, 1952 and the first Finals in 1953, which were broadcast in French on CBC Radio-Canada only in Quebec, perhaps only in the Montreal area. Rene Lecavalier was the play-by-play man and only the three games in Montreal were televised. English language telecasts began in 1954 with Danny Gallivan at the microphone. Danny was followed by Bill Hewitt and Bob Cole were the primary play-by-play announcers through the 2008 Finals. Beginning in 2009, Jim Hughson took over the play-by-play duties with Craig Simpson alongside for color commentary.
