"I am the wild blue yonder. The front line in a never-ending battle between good... and not-so good. Together, with my stalwart sidekick, Arthur, and the magnanimous help of some other folks I know, we form the yin to villainy's malevolent yang. Destiny has chosen us. Wicked men! You face...The Tick!" The life of a superhero is not easy. There are not enough dangers. However, someone must fight evil and protect good. The few who face this challenge have to leave behind comfort, security and a little sanity. Jumping from roof to roof in one single jump, the mysterious blue justice defender The Tick (Patrick Warburton) patrols The City, and his limited knowledge of human life doesn't interfere with his desire to protect society. The frustrated and well-behaved accountant known as Arthur (David Burke) left his job to join The Tick as The Moth, and now they're a crime-fighting duo. Arthur has always secretly wished being a superhero. Well, not so secretly, since he used his moth outfit (which looks more like a bunny) to work. On this fight against injustice, The Tick also counts on Batmanuel (Nestor Carbonell), a Latino superhero who never promotes himself without a worthy cause. His kryptonite is Captain Liberty (Liz Vassey), the government's number one weapon on the battle against supervillains. The Tick is based on the 'cult' comic character created by Ben Edlund. There was an animated version a few years ago. Check it out here. Originally planned as a 2000-2001 midseason replacement after The Simpsons on Sunday nights, and apparently never thought of as anything more than strike filler for a writer's strike which never happened, FOX toppers Sandy Grushow and Gail Berman changed their minds, keeping Malcolm in the Middle in the slot for another year and pushing The Tick back to fall. When The Tick finally went on the air, it was dumped on Thursdays. They didn't promote it very much, and needless to say, it didn't last very long.moreless

In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God hovering above? At least it is true, that man has no control, even over his own will. These spoken words at the beginning of each episode refer to the primary theme of Berserk: Every human is controlled by fate. We are introduced to the main character, Guts(The Black Swordsman), in the first episode. He is a tall man who is indelibly marked with the Brand on his neck. This horrible symbol draws all of demonkind to him. Guts wields a huge sword, throwing knives, an arm cannon, and a repeating crossbow. If one were to look at him, they could tell he's been through a lot. Guts has a prosthetic left arm and is also missing his right eye; in addition to the countless scars on his body. What has happened to this man? Placed in a medieval setting, Berserk tells the story of a younger Guts and the charismatic Griffith. A 100 year war rages between the kingdom of Midland and the empire of Chuder. Among the many armies, there is one group which shines above the rest: The Band of the Hawk. This elite mercenary group on the side of Midland is known as "death on the battlefield." Griffith, the leader of this group, is pursuing his dream and nothing will come in his way, especially with Guts at his side. As soon as they meet, the wheels of fate are set in motion and nothing will ever be the same. This anime is an adaptation of the ongoing manga masterpiece created by Kentarou Miura.moreless

MTV - Music Television (ended 1996)
"The Head" began as an ongoing serial which originally ran under the title "MTV's Oddities." The Head is the story of Jim, a trade-school student, who awakens one morning to find that his cranium has enlarged to mammoth proportions. A week later, out bursts Roy, an little blue alien with an odd sense of humor, who's taken up residence in Jim's head. Turns out Roy needed a place to stay to adapt to the Earth's environment while on a mission to save the world from a power-hungry alien named Gork. Aiding Jim and Roy are his girlfriend, Madelyn, his doctor, Dr. Richard Axel, and a group of "human anomalies." The group consists of Ray, a landscaper who has a lawnmower blade lodged in his skull; Mona, a normal looking woman with a tail; Ivan, who has a mouth in his chest; Raquel, who has a nose like a rat; Earl, who has a fishbowl in his mouth; Chin, a long-limbed former-freak show performer; and the annoyingly normal head of the group, Shane Blackman. After the initial 13 episodes had aired, "MTV's Oddities" began airing another serial, entitled The Maxx. When "The Maxx" had finished airing, "The Head" returned with a new batch of episodes, but the focus often shifted from Jim and Roy to the other "human anomalies" they'd befriended -- and the new episodes lacked the serial structure that had made the initial run so successful. Shortly after the second season finished airing, "The Head" (along with "MTV's Oddities") vanished from the airwaves. The first 13 episodes were released on video under the title "The Head Saves the Earth." Snippets from the original airings were left off of the video version (a similar edit was made to The Maxx video) to keep the running time under two hours. The second batch of episodes were never released on video. In 1996, Pocket Books released a graphic novel entitled "The Head: A Legend is Born," which was based on an episode that was never filmed. The cover shows a picture of Jim and folds out with a pop-up of what's in his head -- namely Roy. The story included the return of Dr. Elliot, who was last seen being probed on a UFO in "The Invasion."moreless
