    The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries

    The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries

    ABC (ended 1985)
The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries is the sixth of many short-lived and lesser-known Scooby-Doo shows. But this show is basically the same as Scooby And Scrappy, except that there is a new beginning song and before that Scrappy talks about what the episode is about. In this spinoff series, Daphne assumes Fred's position as leader (Fred and Velma only appear in a few episodes in this series), a tremendous departure from the days of "Dangerprone Daphne". Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy, and Daphne solve mysteries under the pretense of being reporters for a teen magazine. The theme song is also new, sung in the same style as Michael Jackson's hit Thriller with a row of monsters doing the "Thriller" dance in the opening sequence.

Theme Song: Scooby-Dooby-Doo, lookin' for you Woo! Scooby-Doo, where are you? Come on, Scooby, where ya been? Trouble's on the loose again Scooby... They're not gonna get ya Scooby doo... Uh-uh, Scrappy's gonna help ya Scooby... Ooh, Shaggy's gonna be there Scooby-Doo... and Daphne, too. Scooby-Dooby-Doo, looking for you Scooby Dooby Doo, where are you? Scooby, Scoobity-doo Scooby... The Flying Nun

    The Flying Nun

    ABC (ended 1970)
The Flying Nun was a one of the many fantasy sitcoms on the 1960s. It was about Elsie Enthrington, a surfer girl, who became a nun. Now named Sister Bertrille, the young novice discovered that she had the ability to fly. She only weighed 90 pounds and when the wind was right she could put on her cornette and fly.

In 1967, she arrived at the Convent San Tanco in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Reverand Mother who ran the place was a strict conservative who usually had to put up with Bertrille's mishaps. Sister Jaqueline, a wise nun with a sense of humor became Sister Bertrille's friend (Sister Jaqueline also narrated the show). The sister was also friends with Sister Sixto, a Puerto Rican nun who was struggling with her English language, and Sister Ana, another younger nun.

She had a special relationship with Carlos Ramirez, a playboy who owned the Carlos-A-Go Go discoteque. Carlos was usually disturbed by Sister Bertrille right in the middle of hot dates, and because of this he dreaded her visits. Deep down, though, Carlos was a great friend to the airborne novice.

For three years, The Flying Nun was a favorite among kids and adults, and was praised by actual Catholic nuns for its portrayal of convent life. While it is rarely shown on cable, it was recently seen in a regular timeslot on TVLand.

    The Crow: Stairway to Heaven

    The Crow: Stairway to Heaven

    The WB (ended 1999)
Exactly one year after his death, rock musician, Eric Draven, returns to earth in a symbolic and literal leap from the bridge that joins the Land of the Dead and the land of the living. Possessing the mystic powers of The Crow, he is neither living nor dead, searching for a way to right what has been wronged.

The Crow: Stairway to Heaven continues the legacy of Eric Draven and expands on the mythology of the successful feature film franchise. Joined as soulmates, Draven and his girlfriend Shelly were inseparable — until they were brutally and senselessly murdered.

Now, their souls cannot rest. Their romance endures through time and death, creating an incredible longing between the young lovers. Draven seeks redemption by helping others, fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves. Through each act of justice, he is taken one step closer to his own salvation.

A foot soldier on the side of good, at Draven's core is a powerful force that transforms him into The Crow — his alter ego.

Draven's return to Earth arouses both suspicion and curiosity from Daryl Albrecht, the police lieutenant who has never given up his crusade to solve the vicious crime that cost Eric and Shelly their lives.

Eric also has other earthly allies. He and Shelly remain connected to Sarah, a 13-year-old kid who is streetwise beyond her years and who regarded the dead lovers as family. While her rebellious nature can be her worst enemy, she is the grounded voice of reality for Eric.

Even a dead man needs to get a life. Although Eric Draven has been changed forever, he must exist, at least for now, in the world of the living.

During the opening theme of the show, the voice-overs of Eric and Shelly say:

SHELLY: People once believed that when someone dies, a Crow carries their soul to the Land of the Dead

DRAVEN: But sometimes something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest

SHELLY: Then sometimes, just sometimes, the Crow can bring the soul back to put things right

DRAVEN: Things can never be right, my soul will never rest, until we are together again.

The Crow: Stairway to Heaven was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.moreless

    Jack of All Trades

    Jack of All Trades

    (ended 2000)
"In 1801, the Revolution had been won, and Uncle Sam's favorite son, had a job that needed done.

Which brought Jack to a lady, both beautiful and smart. Who found his mix intriguing, a scoundrel with a heart!

From the Halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli There was never a leatherneck braver, a daring dragoon is he!

He'll halt the bold advance of Napoleon's attack There ain't a French or Pirate rogue Who Don't Know Jack!

From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli Sailin' 'round the bloody world to defend democracy.

And if ya' think a better man ya'd trust ta watch yer' back, just ask the bloke right next ta ya' (damn right!) It's Jack!"

These...enthusiastic lyrics (accompanied by dancing peglegged bar patrons and a talking parrot) kicked off each episode of Jack of All Trades. American spy Jack Stiles is sent by Thomas Jefferson to the tiny East Indies island of Palau-Palau where he teams up with British agent and inventor Emilia Rothschild to thwart the efforts of Napoleon and France in that region of the world. While acting as Emilia's man-servant, Jack dons the masked garb of the legendary Daring Dragoon and fights the local French Governor as well as thwarting various other schemes against America.

This series starring cult-favorite Bruce Campbell and produced by Sam Raimi combined various factors from both of their series: the use of a historical setting (sorta) and quirky humor that Raimi had made famous with Hercules and Xena, a mix of The Wild Wild West Jules Verne-tech that was used in Campbell's The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., and the wild stunts that were seen in all of these shows. Airing back to back in syndication with another Raimi production, Cleopatra 2525, Jack lasted two years. Jack of All Trades was created in order to fill the time slot that was made empty when Hercules: The Legendary Journeys finished. The theme song was nominated for the "Outstanding Main Theme Title Song" Emmy in 2000, but lost to The West Wing.moreless
