She investigates the murder for the victim's girlfriend, and suddenly is immersed in the supernatural. A former detective with the Metropolitan Toronto Police; she quit after learning she has a degenerative eye disorder rather than accept a desk job. Her MTP contact, former partner and ex-lover Detective Mike Celucci complicates matters with his doubts about her experiences. As her cases progressively involve her in Toronto's underworld, she is torn between her attraction to Henry and love for Mike who fears for her sanity. Based on the "Blood" novels featuring Vicki Nelson by Tanya Huff. Created by executive producer Peter Mohan, the show is produced by Kaleidoscope Entertainment and Insight Film Studios in association with CHUM Television.

    Broadcast History:
Season One - Sundays at 9:00 pm
Season Two - Fridays at 9:00 pm

Blood Ties was broadcast in America on Lifetime cable network in 2007. Although filmed as one 22-episode season, the network split it into two seasons. The first 12 episodes were broadcast winter through spring of 2007, with eight of the final 10 episodes broadcast in autumn 2007. Season two was part of a block of programming called "Psy-Fridays" where Blood Ties was joined by reality show Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead and game show America's Psychic Challenge. According to press reports at the time, Lifetime opted to move the final two episodes of season two to their website for streaming because the game show and reality series had finished their runs after eight episodes. With no supernatural programming to take their places, Lifetime chose not to finish Blood Ties' season with traditional broadcasts. There were rumors of a possible season three, but Lifetime effectively canceled the series when it was not part of their 2008 upfront presentation in April 2008.moreless

Unfortunately, the show was one of the many that did not get to live as long as it should have. The show had so much going for it - an interesting storyline, addicting characters, a good theme, and a wonderful cast and crew. With an amazing start within the 13 episodes, who knows what this show would have turned into? All we know, it would have been amazing. Nine stories were shown in this series, which was followed a few years later by Jim Henson's The Storyteller: Greek Myths. The cartoon focused mainly on the vehicles and characters from the original 1985 toy line. Later on, there were also some appearances from some 1986 vehicles. (Interestingly enough, I don't think they ever made a toy of Shark, a vehicle that was seen on the cartoon quite a bit...) The last season of the show apparently featured a racing theme to correspond with the racing series M.A.S.K. toys. I have seen most of these episodes however. From what I think, they were quite lame, mainly due to the fact that every single episode took place at a race track! But then again, this is no ordinary school, and Ickis, Krumm and Oblina are no ordinary students either... Welcome to the land of AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, where, at the Monster Academy, up-and-coming students learn the terrifying tricks of the monster trade, and get the necessary qualifications for a life of advance scarifying (their GCS-Eeks?).

Here, the insecure Ickis, the stinky-armpitted Krumm, and the candycane-shaped Oblina deal with issues like how to best scare supermarket shoppers, where to hide under the bed, and what to do with your eyeballs when you're not holding them in your mouth (here's a hint: juggle them).

All of this goes on under the watchful eyes of their teacher, the fearful Gromble. While these walking nightmares always find new ways to get into trouble, they survive their adventures by sticking together, sometimes literally!

Did you Know? A movie was once considered by the creators.

    *Characters*

Ickis: A rabbit-eared, 34-toothed, yellow eyed, pink furred monster. He is constantly losing his Monster Manual. Hates Gromble.

Krumm: Very hairy, with blue lips, and eyes held constantly in his hands. Usually he keeps his eyes in water at night or in his mouth when he needs his arms.

Oblina: When you hear the term "Skinny as a stick", it's referring to Oblina. Has a white body with black stripes and bulging eyes like a slug or snail. Has four teeth, four strands of hair on her head, and the most intelligent of the bunch. She can even pull organs out of her body!

Gromble: Has a green beard, green fur, black hands, yellow teeth, bulging eyes line Oblina's, and bright red lips. Head teacher of the Monster Academy. Constantly punishing Zimbo and Snorch. Common Quote: "Pay attention, Ickis."moreless

    (ended 1982)
This animated sci-fi retelling of the Greek poet Homer's epic poem, "The Odyssey", was a French-Japanese co-production originally produced in 1981, with animation from premier Japanese animation studio TMS (Tokyo Movie Shinsha). The series was originally envisaged as being 52 episodes long, but production difficulties cut back the number of episodes to 26. The show was written by the French writing team of Nina Wolmark and Jean Chalopin, before being animated by TMS in Japan. Many of the show's key Japanese staff came from the very popular (in France as well as Japan) anime, Rose Of Versailles (Lady Oscar), although the original director, Tadao Nagahama died after production of the first episode, leaving the remaining directors to carry on in a similar style. Some of the show's mechanical designs were also created by Shoji Kawamori and Studio Nue, the famed creators of Macross. Although the show's worldwide debut was on September 12 1981, on Luxembourg's RTL channel, France's FR 3 (the first 'official' home of the series) was not far behind in showing the series. In the mid-1980's the show was given a very respectable and mature English dub by DIC, courtesy of Jean Chalopin and the cast and crew at Multidub International in Montreal, Canada. In the USA, the show was shown in syndication from September 13 1986 as part of Kideo TV a DIC-produced package of animated series such as The Get-Along Gang, Popples and Rainbow Brite (which Ulysses later replaced). The show was also shown on the UK's BBC and Channel 4 networks. Ironically, for a show co-produced by the Japanese, Ulysses 31 wasn't shown on Japanese television until February 6 1988, when a run of twelve episodes was shown there under the title of Space Legend Ulysses 31.moreless

    The Snorks

    Follow
    NBC (ended 1989)
The Snorks were very much like their competitors The Smurfs, except that they live under the sea. The premise for the show was quite elaborate: In 1643, the captain of a ship under pirate attack discovered a tiny race of beings that lived underwater. After reaching the surface, the rescued captain shared his story of Snorks with a disbelieving world, while underneath the waves, an excited Snork by the name of Uncle Galeo was spreading the word about the surface dwellers. Cut to modern day, where the Snorks have evolved much like humans, living in similar houses and eating similar foods. The main characters of the series were teenager Allstar, his girlfriend Casey, and their pals Dimmy, Daffney and Tooter (so named because he only spoke in whistles). As one would expect, Allstar also had a wacky pet and a rival. The pet was an octopus, logically named Occy, while the rival was Junior Wetworth, the spoiled son of the governor of Snorkland. While The Snorks were an obvious attempt to cash in on the success of The Smurfs, the series was not without its own charm. Specifically, the relationship between the Snorks and the surface dwellers was very well designed, with the humans being drawn in a more traditional style to play up their "otherworldly" differences. Also, The Snorks succeeded in concentrating more on humor than on cuteness, taking the show beyond the level of mere Smurf-imitator. Snorks currently air everyday on Boomerang in the US.moreless

It was created by Mike Jupp who had previously worked on cartoons such as "No Man's Valley",and "The Bluffers", and produced by Martin Gates

The Dreamstone is set in the Land of Dreams, where all dreams are created. The Dreamstone itself is a beutiful, mystical jem which is used by it's guaridan, the wise old Dream Maker, to give the inhabitants of the world sweet, peaceful dreams.

He is assisted in this by two Noops, Rufus and Amberley, as well as his faithful Watchdog fish Albert (A hybrid of a fish and a dog)

But beyond the land of dreams, lies the Mists of Limbo, within the Mists of limbo, lies the Land of Nightmares, ruled over by the evil tyrant Zordrack , who schemes to infect the world's population with never-ending nightmares...

The one force that stands in his way is the power of the Dreamstone, which can repel bad dreams, and so he makes plans to steal it from the Dreammaker and destroy it.

With the aid of his squad of bungling Urpneys (commanded by Sergent Blob), Zordrack tries time and time again to aqquire the Dreamstone, but fails each time due to the courage and resolve of Rufus, Amberly, and the rest of the Noops, who will never let the dreams die!

The series' music was provided by Mike Batt,(in) famously known worldwide for writing the song "Bright Eyes" for the Watership Down soundtrack...

The series ran for 5 years, and was one of the biggest successes in the U.K...

    Characters:

RUFUS: An adventurous, spirited young Noop, who often daydreams, and occasionly gets himself in mischief, but when it is time to stand up to Zordrack or peforming a challenging task, he shows no fear and proves he's up for the job...

AMBERLY: Rufus's best freind, she always tries to steer Rufus away from doing anything mischevous, but ends up failing most of the time, and even gets into trouble HERSELF as a result.

Neverthless she comes through for Rufus when it counts and accompnies him on his adventures

ZORDRACK: The master of the Land of Nightmares, and once a dreamaker himself before being exiled for misusing his power to create chaos, Zordrack is a collosal,cold-hearted ,dragon-like tyrant, fierce in power as well as in strength. He intends to blanket the world in nightmares, only the Dreamstone prevents this plan from reaching fruitition...

URPNEYS: Zordrack's cheif troops, commanded by Sergent Blob...very sneeky, if a tad slow-minded..

URPGOR: Zordrack's cheif scientest, the inventor of a thousand devilish devices designed to grab the Dreamstone and create havok in the land of dreams... which usually fail.

Also detests the way Zordrack treats him and waits for the chance to seize control for himself...

    Dreamstone Lyrics (by Martin Gates)

I used to dream myself to somewhere else each night,

I dreamed in colour, 'cause I lived in black and white,

Until I chanced upon this road that led to you,

I could not see, how anything could be...

    (Main Chorus)

Better than a dream, stranger than my wild imagination,

If this is a real sensation

    It's better than a dream.

Higher than the moon, hazy like a beautiful illusion,

    Crazy and in confusion

    And better than a dream.

    (2nd lyrics)

I used to wish I was beyond some distant door,

I knew there must be more to life and now I'm sure,

No dream of pirate caves or indian braves,

Or magic carpets could ever be this good.moreless
