"Who ya gonna call?" New York City has enjoyed a lengthy respite from the supernatural for some time now. The Real Ghostbusters – Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore – did their jobs very well, but have long since gone on to lead more normal lives. Unfortunately, there are always ghosts out there, and they are coming back in full force. Without the Ghostbusters, New York City is defenseless against these menaces. As the sole one still around, Egon knows that he has to do something. However, even with old friend Janine Melnitz and ghostly sidekick Slimer around, he needs a lot more help. Enter a younger team compromised of Eduardo Rivera, Kylie Griffin, Garrett Miller and Roland Jackson. Guided by Egon and boasting more advanced ghostbusting equipment, the Extreme Ghostbusters face off against nastier and meaner ghosts. The Real Ghostbusters had been over for years, but interest in the franchise in general has always remained. Finally, after six years, Extreme Ghostbusters hit the airwaves. Boasting some of the people involved with RGB, EGB turned out some fan favorites (including the "Back in the Saddle" two-parter, which brought back Peter, Ray and Winston). Though not nearly as successful as its predecessor, this second spin-off was far more faithful to RGB than the short-lived Slimer! spin-off from years earlier.moreless

    ABC (ended 2004)
Using the Danish miniseries "Riget" (a.k.a. "The Kingdom") as a point of inspiration, master of horror Stephen King gives Kingdom Hospital a unique and menacing American touch. Kingdom is a hospital whose bizarre population includes a brilliant surgeon who lives in the basement, a nearly blind security guard and a nurse who regularly faints at the sight of blood. But when patients and staff hear the voice of a girl crying through the halls and a patient destined for life as a paraplegic miraculously recovers, they are dismissive of any suggestion of mysticism or unseen powers at their own peril. Andrew McCarthy (plays Dr. Hook, a surgeon who lives in the hospital basement. Oscar nominee Diane Ladd (Alice) is Mrs. Druse, a hypochondriac whose psychic abilities lead her to the hospital. Fellow Oscar nominee Bruce Davison (The Practice & X-Men) will play Dr. Stegman, an arrogant, but inept physician. The series is set up to play out like a book. The episode you watch picks up right where the last episode left off. Not in the sense of 24 that goes hour by hour, but more to the form of chapter by chapter. King himself was quoted as saying "Remember that Kingdom Hospital is a "novelization for television". Like a novel, it will pay back dividends but you will have to give it a little bit of time." King himself describes the show as a mix of ER and The Shining. I have it; They want it; and they will do anything to get the negative. I'm keeping this diary as proof that these events are real. I know they are. They have to be." On August 28, 1995, Thomas Veil, a professional photographer, has his identity suddenly erased by a mysterious conspiracy. Nobody recognizes him, including his own wife. His studio is empty, his art show at a gallery has vanished. His entire past ceased to exist in a moment. People are chasing him, but he doesn't know why, except that it has something to do with "Hidden Agenda", a picture of a brutal execution he took a year earlier, now missing from his studio. He has the negative, "they" want it, and the hunt is on. Tom Veil is on the run, trying to find out the truth of what happened to him while at the same time evading his unknown pursuers.moreless

("One of the three best horror books about crabs I've ever read" - Hard Gore Magazine). Back in the 1980s, he branched out into television production, writing and starring in a series so radical, so scary and so downright crazy that when the bosses of Channel 4 saw what they had on their hands, they ran away screaming, like little girls. Only now, twenty years on and amid the worst programming drought in television history, have the station finally allowed the show on the air. Intercut with new interviews with Marenghi himself and his co-stars Dean Learner and Todd Rivers, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is perhaps the most disturbing vision of hospital life ever broadcast.moreless

Together they have to catch 13 ghosts and put them in a magical "Chest of Demons" that Scooby and Shaggy were tricked into opening by two sneaky ghosts named Weerd and Bogel. This was the last cartoon series that the original Scooby-Doo gang (minus Fred and Velma) appeared in for nearly 20 years. In 1988, the entire gang returned to TV as children in A Pup Named Scooby Doo, but they wouldn't resurface again weekly in their adult form until 2002 in What's New Scooby-Doo?.moreless

Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo is the 1979 update of the classic Scooby-Doo character. This was the fourth Scooby-Doo cartoon to date and introduced the world to Scrappy-Doo, Scooby's puppy nephew. Despite being related, Scrappy-Doo was not much like his uncle, Scooby. Situations that would normally cause Scooby-Doo to react in frozen terror would result in Scrappy-Doo putting up his paws and shouting "Lemme at 'em! I'll splat 'em!". Due to his small size and hot temper, Scrappy-Doo would often be in physical danger, forcing Scooby-Doo and Shaggy to reluctantly save him. Scooby, Scrappy, and the rest of Mystery, Inc. were still out solving mysteries. In this series they encounter some truly out-of-this-world characters including the UFO Weirdo, Aztec Acapulco Sea Creature, Sky Skeleton, Devil Bear, and Snake Demon of Haiti. Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo ran for one exciting season in 1979 and had Scooby-Doo fans young and old talking about "Puppy Power!"moreless

    Milton the Monster

    ABC (ended 1966)
In the fall of 1964, primetime television was invaded by two clans of monsters who were definitely more funny than scary, The Munsters and The Addams Family. Ever quick to capitalize on the hot trend, Hal Seeger Productions sold The Milton The Monster Show to ABC for the 1965-1966 season. It would be Seeger's only network television series. Milton and his friends definitely fell into the more funny than scary category, thanks to some clever scripts by the team of Jack Mercer and Kin Platt, as well as Woody Kling. Milton himself was a giant Frankenstein-type, but since too much tenderness was added to the recipe by Milton's creators, Professor Weirdo and Count Kook, it resulted in Milton being a good-hearted monster. The late Bob McFadden did the voice for Milton as a good ol' Southern boy, not unlike Gomer Pyle. Milton's other friends included Heebie and Jeebie, as well as Abercrombie The Zombie. When Hiram The Fly puts on a pair of super glasses, he becomes the assertive superhero Fearless Fly in the most prolific supporting series from this show. Usually he hangs around the Sugar Bowl with his fly friends Flory and Horsey. Fearless adversaries include Dr. Goo Fee and (crossing over from his Milton role) Professor Weirdo. In the other supporting series, Stuffy Durma is a hobo who inherits ten million dollars, hires an advisor named Bradley Brinkley to handle his affairs, and opens his mansion to hobo friends like Ashcan Annie and Stu Mulligan. Most of the cartoons in this subseries were animated by New York cartooning legend Jim Tyer. Among the less-prevalent supporting series are Penny Penguin, Muggy-Doo, and Flukey Luke. The Milton The Monster Show aired on ABC from 1965 to 1968 and in syndication afterwards. It is still offered for syndication by Worldvision Enterprises.moreless
