When The Little Christmas Special that Could proved to be an unexpected success, the stage was set for successive television specials. To date, over forty have been made. The Charlie Brown specials focus on one round-headed kid, his goofy but intelligent beagle, and their vast array of friends. Each has distinctive qualities: Lucy, the crabby, self-proclaimed psychiatrist; Linus, the blanket-toting theologian; Schroeder, the Beethoven worshiper whose black piano keys are only painted on; Peppermint Patty, the tomboy whose affections toward "Chuck" are only outweighed by her sports abilities; and so on. The wit, the charm, the pleasantness of these specials make them appropriate not just for children, but for the whole family.moreless

Based on the highly popular comic strip by Jim Davis, Garfield and Friends was considered the best long-running cartoon on CBS. This Saturday morning series featured the adventures of that lovable, hungry fat cat Garfield, his yellow dog friend Odie, and their cartoonist bachelor master Jon Arbuckle. Garfield cartoons shared the spot with a new cartoon series created for this series called U.S. Acres (also based on a comic strip by Jim Davis). U.S. Acres was a cartoon about a group of barnyard animals who run a farm. The leader was Orson Pig, the bookish and perceptive pig. His friends had many different qualities: Wade Duck was the scaredy-cat duck who runs away from everything, no kidding; Booker was a crafty little chick whose main goal was to chase a worm, and his brother Sheldon was nothing more than an egg with two legs sticking out; Roy Rooster was the practical joking rooster who puts everyone in trouble with his jokes; and two sheep, Bo and Lanolin, were always bickering with each other about nearly everything. Bo being a nice guy and Lanolin a cruel girl. Each episode, they had to protect the farm from Orson's big bad brothers and a crafty weasel. Before this series, Garfield cartoons were shown as yearly specials on CBS, and the specials were so great that CBS decided to turn Garfield into a cartoon series. In the first season, each 30-minute episode was packed with three 8-minute shorts, two Garfield shorts and one U.S. Acres short. In the second season, Garfield and Friends expanded to an hour, consisting of four Garfield cartoons and two U.S. Acres cartoons. It remained at this format until the show ended in 1994. 'Garfield:The Movie' was released on June 11,2004 & so far has made over $75 million at the box office. Thanks to the success of the movie, 20th Century Fox is now working on a CGI/live action movie version of 'Alvin & The Chipmunks' & coming to theathers on December 25th is 'Fat Albert', which is of course a live action version of the classic 1974-1984 cartoon 'Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids'. Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers was mainly about Chip and Dale's adventures in fighting crimes that the police think are too small to handle. Together, with the help of Gadget Hackwrench, the inventive and industrious girl mouse, a blue fly named Zipper, and Monterey Jack, a husky, strong mouse with a killer addiction for cheese, they match wits with evil scientists like Professor Nimbul and crooked cat underworld leader Fat Cat and his gang. This series first began on the Disney Channel in the spring of 1989, and then it had a long life on The Disney Afternoon block of shows. Main Characters Chip: The brave leader of the Rescue Rangers, resembles a pint-sized Indiana Jones. He is by far the most practical member of the team and his loyalty to the others never wavers, even if Dale does try his patience at times. Dale: He is much more excitable than Chip, a fact reflected in his fondness for garish red-and-yellow Hawaiian shirts. Has a fondness for comic books, science fiction and tall stories in general. Gadget Hackwrench: The only female Rescue Ranger is a brilliant inventor and created all the teams vehicles. The daughter of one of Monty's old friends, she is more than just a pretty face. Monteray Jack: Known to his friends as Monty, he is the eldest of the Rescue Rangers and was an explorer before he joined up with Chip and Dale. Has an addiction to cheese, which sometimes lands himself and the others in trouble. Zipper: A fly who hung round with Monty on his travels, he is the smallest Rescue Ranger. But what he lacks in size he more than makes up for in courage. Fatcat: As his name suggests, he is an overweight cat who used to belong to the first human villain the Rangers ever put behind bars. He is greedy, arrogant and short-tempered and is forever looking for some means of dominating the world. Meps, Wart, Mole and Snout: These are Fatcat's stooges. Meps is also a cat, while Wart, Mole and Snout are a lizard, a mole and a rat respectively. Professor Nimnul: A crazed human professor who is forever coming up with new devices with which to dominate the world.moreless

Long ago, there was a thriving civilization of small humanoid bears called Gummi Bears. Possessing powerful magic and advanced technology, this race coexisted with humans until the growing rivalry forced the Gummis to flee across the sea, leaving only a small caretaker colony to prepare for a possible return. However, generations passed and the colony forgot their purpose even as human knowledge of the race faded into mere legend. All that changes when the colony meets a boy with a Gummi Bear medallion which unlocks the Great Book of Gummi which reveals lost knowledge of their past. Now the colony has dedicated themselves to the new goal to rediscover their heritage with the help of a few trusted humans while preventing new enemies like Duke Igthorn from exploiting that heritage to their own ends. Gummi Bears was part of what many consider Disney's "Golden Age" what that actually means is that is was when Disney had quality writers, characters, theme songs ect ect. Some other shows that were part of this time were The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Talespin, Ducktales, and Darkwing Duck The Gummi Bears had many secrets. All were built by the Ancient Gummis and a few by the present Gummis. Some of their many inventions and creations were Gummiberry Juice, Great Book of Gummi, Gummi Medallion, Quick Tunnels, Quick Cars, Mole Machine, Magical Gummi Statue, Ursalia Aqueduct, Long Range Quick Cars, Gumarine, Air Ship, Ursalia Horn, Gummi Scope, Wind Turbines, Great Quilt, Black Knight, Flying Machine, Gummi Dummy, The Oracle, Gummi Necklace, Changing Hat, and much much more! Disney is now releasing the animated programs to DVD with the first being Gargoyles (Last December) and then on November, 8, 2005 Disney will release a 3 DVD boxset of Duckales and Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers. Rumor is Gummi Bears will be paired up with a DVD box set of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Some are good and honest, others very malicious but no one is more dangerous than Tex Hex the leader of the Carrion Bunch, a group of outlaws under the control of the mysterious group Stampede. Hex seeks to control this immense mineral richness at all costs than is Kerium. Only one person can put a stop on his plans: BraveStarr. When there was an obstacle in the way, BraveStarr called for the power of a particular animal and used that ability to move the obstacle, like using the strength of a bear to move a boulder, or the speed of a puma to catch the criminal, the eyes of a hawk, or the ears of a wolf. To help him in the fight for the cause of justice, he had Thirty-Thirty, his horse that can transform into a human-like creature being able to stand on it's hind legs, talk and fight alongside him. BraveStarr lived in Fort Kerium. His advisor was the wise, elderly Shaman. BraveStarr was created by the Group W. Productions Company, Filmation, the same creators of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, however it wasn't as successful as its predecessor, and many people put the blame on Mattel for the cartoon's short run as they hurried to release the figures for the Christmas season of 1986 before anyone had even heard of BraveStarr. The action figure's poor selling hailed BraveStarr as a failure before it even aired.moreless

He and Duke join the N Team consisting of Princess Lana (the ruler of Videoland), Simon Belmont (the hero from "Castlevania"), Mega Man, Kid Icarus, and later Gameboy (a supercomputer that looks like a Game Boy system). NBC (ended 1989)
The Smurfs are a group of over 100 bluish, three-apple tall creatures who live in the mushroom homes of Smurf Village. They are led by 543-year-old Papa Smurf (who doesn't look a day over 530). Their lives would be perfect were it not for the villainous Gargamel, a wizard who spends his days trying to capture them to eat, turn into gold, or for some other evil reason. Gargamel's cat Azrael adds to the menace, always looking for a smurfalicious snack. The single-emotioned smurfs, including Brainy, Jokey, Vanity, Grouchy and Clumsy, and others, were later joined by Grandpa Smurf, five Smurflings (who went back in time to become youngsters), and even Nanny late in the series. Gargamel, too, got a friend in the form of the unscrupulous Scruple. In 1982, the Culliford characters Johan and his aide Peewit ("Peewee" to U.S. kids) were given their own segments during the expanded, 90-minute The Smurfs, but the two humans simply weren't as smurfy as their tiny friends, and thus did not last. Despite its incredible popularity, The Smurfs actually encountered some controversy. Some adults considered the show quite sexist in its use of the one original female character, Smurfette, who was created by Gargamel as a way to fool the other Smurfs. In reaction to the criticism, the siren was changed into a sweetie via some Papa Smurf magic, and later seasons brought further smurf femmes like Sassette and Nanny. Perhaps the most memorable feature of the show was the use of the word "smurf" in every possible tense and construction. For instance, it wouldn't be unusual to hear a Smurf remark something like, "It's such a smurfy day, I think I'll go smurfing in Lake Smurf." In any case, the show won two Emmys as Outstanding Children's Entertainment Series and, in 1987, actually did a message episode. In an anti-drug show, Poet Smurf became addicted after rubbing a witch's magic orb, requiring the help of Papa and the gang to overcome his problem. The Smurfs hit the silver screen in 1984 with The Smurfs and the Magic Flute. The film was actually a dubbed version of an older Belgian Schtroumpfs feature, and our teeny weeny heroes didn't even appear until a ways in. The film flopped, but the cartoon continued to rule Saturday morning for the better part of the decade. In 1989, in an attempt to save the nearly decade-old show, the producers had the Smurfs leaving Smurf Village to visit various times and locations. Fans were smurfed off. The show was cancelled after that season, surviving only in the syndicated package titled The Smurfs' Adventures. Catch an hour of The Smurfs every weekday morning on The Cartoon Network at 11AM - 12PM EST and on the Boomerang Network at 8AM, 4PM, and 12AM EST.moreless

With the success of The Flintstones, the modern Stone Age family, Hanna-Barbera decided to make a similar family cartoon, but set in their vision of the Space Age in the 21st century. This new series that debuted September 23, 1962 became The Jetsons. Set mainly in sky-high Orbit City, the show featured the family of George Jetson, Jane, his wife, their daughter Judy, and son Elroy living the average life in the future with flying space cars, instant transport tubes, and various robots and gadgets than can get their work done for them in a matter of seconds.

George brought in the family income by working at Spacely Space Sprockets, run by his stocky, ill-tempered boss Cosmo Spacely, who's usually quick to fire George for any reason he could find. But somehow, he always managed to get his job back and continue supporting his family. He works as an indexer and is teamed with his helpful computer R.U.D.I. Other than the threats of firing by Spacely, George would also have to worry about any schemes carried out by Mr. Spacely's top business rival W.C. Cogswell, owner and president of Cogswell Cogs. If there's a dispute between the two businessmen, it's almost certain George would wind up in the middle of it. Most times, though, things always worked out in the end.

Jane is the housewife who tends to the home, but loves to shop for the latest fashions and various items that can be a help to the family, like new gadgets that can help them in new ways. She's assisted by the family's robot maid Rosey (which can also be spelled Rosie). She's one of the older-fashioned models compared to most of the advanced robot maids of the future, but the Jetsons love her and regard her as a member of the family.

Judy is the Jetsons' teenage daughter who attends Orbit High School and goes for the latest teen fashions, trends, and music, and seems to have a different boyfriend in most episodes. If she's lucky, she can even wind up dating a celebrity, like her favorite rock star Jet Screamer, much to her father's chagrin.

Elroy is the Jetsons' genius son who attends Little Dipper Elementary School and is a straight-A student. He's a part-time inventor and can make new creations in hope to make a better future, and if fortunate, a little money on the side. But most times, he likes to be an average boy by playing various sports, and with his faithful companion, the family's dog Astro, who at times is overly affectionate, and can annoy George at times. But like Rosey, he's regarded as a member of the family.

The Jetsons reside at the Skypad Apartments, which are properly cared for by superintendant Henry Orbit, who like Elroy is a mechanical genius. At times, he can invent gadgets that can help him with his maintenance work. His greatest accomplishment is his robot assistant Mac, who can get his work at the Skypad Apartments done in half the time. But he does have feelings for Rosey as the two are occasionally seen as a couple, but are mainly friends.

Other recurring characters in this series include Mr. Spacely's family, particularly his wife Stella (sometimes called Petunia, likely her nickname), one of few people who can actually put a scare in him if he rubs her the wrong way. And they have a young son close to Elroy's age named Arthur. Common characters at Spacely Sprockets are Uniblab, an underling robot who at times is a stool pigeon for Mr. Spacely to George's dismay, as well as Spacely's secretary Miss Galaxy. Cogswell also had a few subordinates of his own. Among them were his assistant Harlan and his scientist Moonstone.

The Jetsons ran for only one season on ABC, but the series was more successful in syndication. This led to a revival in 1985 with new episodes with more advanced animation that was richer in color and made the series even more futuristic than the 1960's version of the 21st century. New characters were introduced as well, including a new alien gremlin pet for the Jetsons, named Orbitty, who has springlike legs and suction cup feet, enabling him to hang upside down. He could also tinker with machines and change color in accordance to emotion. Another new animal for the revival was a robot dog for Cogwell named Sentro, who served as a guard dog and a spy often used against Mr. Spacely in efforts to beat him to the punch on his latest projects.

These episodes aired in syndication, which generated the same level of success as the originals when they went in that direction. This led to 10 more episodes to finalize the series in 1987, as well as two TV movies, the music-themed Rockin' with Judy Jetson, which was preceded by the epic crossover The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones, which brought the Space Age and the Stone Age together as Hanna-Barbera's most famous families had a grand adventure spanning two eras. The Jetsons had its true finale when Jetsons: The Movie hit the theaters in 1990, as this would be among the last voice work for actors George O'Hanlon (George Jetson) and Mel Blanc (Mr. Spacely) for they both had died just prior to the movie's release.

Overall, The Jetsons may not have had the supreme popularity of The Flintstones, but it did have a wide appeal for families of any generation and certainly had a place in the heart for those who would turn on and watch the series.

The Jetsons, like many Hanna-Barbera series, can be seen on Boomerang from Cartoon Network. Check your local listings. And the majority of the series can be seen on DVD, so it would be a good means to build your cartoon collection.moreless

    Alvin & the Chipmunks

    Alvin & the Chipmunks

    Follow
    NBC (ended 1991)
This show focuses on three superstar chipmunks who have their own band and the crazy adventures they get into. It also features The Chipettes, their female counterparts and girlfriends. If you have any info, please contribute. Broadcast History ----------------- During its run, Alvin & the Chipmunks, existed in 2 forms... Alvin & the Chipmunks (or The Chipmunks (seasons 6-7)) (Seasons 1-7): All of the original episodes have aired on NBC. The Chipmunks Go To the Movies (Season 8): This also aired on NBC, but not as traditional episodes. All of the episodes were spoofs of famous movies. The Characters Alvin Seville Alvin is the oldest of the chipmunks, and also the lead singer of their group. He is most often the one who gets them into trouble, (usually in an attempt to get rich or famous) and tends to be selfish, self centered, and conceited at times. He really hates to be alone and is VERY vain about his looks, although he does suffer from 'small munk complex'. (his height). Regardless of all this, he is very protective of his brothers. Simon Seville Simon is the middle brother of the chipmunks and is considered the brain of the group. He is always the voice of reason and logic behind Alvin's crazy schemes, and usually (unsuccessfully), tries to talk him out of following these crazy ideas.. He is very level headed in tough situations and is a strong believer in following the rules-- though occasionally he does break them along with his brothers to make sure they don't get into too much trouble... In his spare time, he enjoys reading and studying. Theodore Seville Theodore is the youngest chipmunk, considered the nicest out of all the chipmunks and can get along with just about anyone-- although he does tend to be shy at times. He loves to eat and almost always seems to be hungry. He also enjoys cooking and baking in his spare time-- ( which helps explain his cute little plump figure) and tends to scare easily. He usually gets really nervous when he's around a girl he likes, and tends to be a little slow when it comes to learning in school. David "Dave" Seville Dave is the Chipmunks adoptive father, and also their manager. He found the boys after they were abandoned on his doorstep, and loves them as if they were his own. But Alvin is always driving him crazy with his schemes, causing him to yell his name in exasperation. Brittany Miller Brittany is the oldest of her sisters, and also the lead singer of their group. She can be egotistical and selfish, just like Alvin at times, and is EXTREMELY vain about her looks. She enjoys acting, modeling, and singing-- and is constantly competing with the Chipmunks over whose group is better. Since she is supposed to be the counterpart of Alvin, she too is always coming up with different ideas on how to get rich and famous. And again, just like Alvin, she tends to be very protective of her sisters-- although at times, it takes her awhile.... Jeanette Miller Jeanette is the brains of the group, and also the nice one, though she is very clumsy. Yet her personality doesn't resemble Simon's very much (except for her intelligence). In that respect, she is much more like Theodore. She is very kind towards her sisters, and tends to be quiet and shy. She is very confident about who she is, however, and doesn't seem to care what other people think about her. In her spare time she enjoys reading and studying. Eleanor Miller Just like Theodore, Eleanor loves to cook and bake, and because of it, is a little plump. Here though, the similarity ends. Her personality is not really like Theodore's at all: in reality, it's actually closer to Simon's than anyone else's. Like him, she is usually the one who tries to talk Brittany out of following her crazy schemes and tends to gets extremely annoyed and complains when her sister does something stupid. In a way, however, she is also a lot like Alvin: she is very athletic and good at almost every sport and would do anything to help her sisters. In this way, I think Eleanor is supposed to be a combination of all the Chipmunks, even though she is usually meant to represent Theodore's counterpart. Miss Beatrice Miller Miss Miller is the strange, eccentric, but nice, old lady who lives next door to the Chipmunks. She also happens to have a crush on Dave! She eventually ends up raising the Chipettes. Harry A sneaky, greedy, con-artist chipmunk who originally pretends to be the Chipmunks' long-lost mother's younger brother, in order to get them to work for him, with minimum wage: (or nothing at all). The Chipmunks eventually figure out that he's not really their uncle, and so successfully scheme to take the money he made off of them, and leave, returning to Dave. Harry, however, makes several more appearances throughout the television series. At his last, he even cons the Chipettes. Vinny, the Chipmunks' Mother Eventually, the Chipmunks go searching for their long-lost mother, Vinny, and after days of a treacherous search, actually manage to find her! At first, everyone's happy, but eventually Alvin gets upset since he doesn't understand why she abandoned them. Vinny explains that the year she abandoned them there was a horrible winter and all of the animals in the forest were forced to leave their homes because of it. The fact that they were so young, forced her to realize that they wouldn't survive the journey if she brought them with her. So instead, Vinny decided to leave them with a nice man who was always kind to the forest animals (Dave). She said, "Giving up her babies was the hardest thing she ever did," and then told them that when spring came and she could finally return to get them, she saw how happy they were with Dave, and thought they'd be better off with him. Eventually, Alvin forgives Vinny, and they all part ways on a good note: promising to keep in touch. Theme Song Lyrics "Watch out...cause here we come! It's been a while but we're back in style So get set to have some fun We'll bring you action and satisfaction We're the Chipmunks C-H-I-P-M-U-N-K We're the Chipmunks Guaranteed to brighten your day When you feel like a laugh Give us a call we'll give you our all And if you feel like a song Tune in to us and sing right along We're the Chipmunks Coming on stronger than ever before We're the Chipmunks Alvin, Simon, Theodore! Do-do, do-do-do-do!"moreless

Through the hole and down the tunnel, hidden from everyday reality, are brightly lit caves filled with wonderful creatures. This land, bound together by Magic, is called Fraggle Rock. The most notable of the creatures who inhabit this beautiful place are the Fraggles. Fraggles are furry, have tails, and come in all sorts of colors. Outside of Fraggle Rock live a small family of giant Gorgs. Pa and Ma proclaim themselves as King and Queen of the Universe, and their son Junior loves to spend his free time chasing and catching Fraggles, especially since they love to pick the radishes out of his garden. ITV (ended 1966)
In 2065, former astronaut and millionaire Jeff Tracy forms an secret organization named International Rescue. Its mission is to intervene when human life is at threat and nobody else is able to help. They're based on a small tropical island in the Pacific. While it appears to all the world as a reclusive millionaire's retreat, complete with luxurious hillside house (appropriately in the International Style of architecture) and swimming pool, hidden beneath the house and inside a cliff face are various facilities for the enormous complex where their equipment is built, maintained and stored. The equipment, including the specialized Thunderbird vehicles, is designed and assembled by Brains, a brilliant engineer fiercely loyal to Jeff. Supporting the team is Lady Penelope, a famous society figure who secretly acts as their London operative, assisted by her butler, Parker. The five Thunderbird craft are piloted by each of Jeff's five sons, all named after members of America's Mercury program: - Thunderbird 1, piloted by Scott, named after Scott Carpenter. This ramjet-powered plane is their fastest aircraft, always first on the scene to assess the situation and coordinate the rescue. - Thunderbird 2, piloted by Virgil (after Virgil "Gus" Grissom." A fan favorite, Thunderbird 2 is the heavy lift air transport, responsible for carrying all manner of large and bulky machinery to rescue sites. - Thunderbird 3 is piloted by Alan (after Alan Shepard) or John (after John Glenn,) depending on who is on station in Thunderbird 5. 3 is the spaceship for International Rescue. - Thunderbird 4, piloted by Gordon (after Gordon Cooper), is a mini-submarine usually carried to sites inside Thunderbird 2. - Thunderbird 5 is manned by John and Alan on rotating monthly shifts. It's an orbital space platform where all communications around the world can be monitored and issues alerts to Jeff whenever trouble arises. International Rescue insists on complete secrecy. Their identities aren't known to anyone outside the organization and photography of their equipment is forbidden. Thunderbirds was produced by Gerry Anderson and was the culmination of his Supermarionation process, which used marionette puppets instead of live actors. Originally intended for children, the show still has a devoted fanbase of adult viewers, both in the United Kingdom where it originated and in the United States, where it was syndicated in the 1960s and 70s. The series spawned three theatrical features. Thunderbirds Are Go! and Thunderbird Six were produced soon after the series left the air, although neither met with box office success. In 2004, a live action feature of the same name was made without Anderson's involvement. It drew scathing comments from professional movie reviewers who compared it unfavorably to the original show.moreless

    (ended 1985)
In the early eighties, New World Productions took two popular Japanimated series, King of Beasts GoLion and Armored Fleet Diarugger XV, heavily reedited the series, dubbed them into English and created Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The result was phenomenally successful in the United States and around the world. In the portion of the series created from GoLion (Commonly known as Lion Voltron.), five space explorers from Earth based alliance Galaxy Garrison are sent to Planet Arus to assist the planet in its war with King Zarkon and the forces of Planet Doom. The people of Arus hope the five newly arrived explorers can pilot the five robotic lions that can combine into Voltron. Voltron was created by the Planet's late King Alphor to fight against Zarkon's forces. However Zarkon's cunning witch Haggar disguised herself as a Space Goddess and managed to separate Voltron into five separate units. Without Voltron's help, Arus fell to King Zarkon. With the arrival of the space explorers Voltron rises again to turn the tide of the war and defeat Zarkon once and for all. In the protion of the series created from Dairugger (Commonly known as Vehicle Voltron.), the Galaxy Garrison starship SS Explorer, under the command of Commander James Hawkins, is on a mission to find new planets that are suitable for colonization due to the overcrowded nature of planets already a part of the alliance. However Explorer soon crosses paths with the forces of the Drule Empire. Unbeknown-st to Explorer's crew, the Drule home world is on the verge of destruction and they are on a desperate search for a new home. Explorer tries to make peaceful contact with the Drules. However the Drules are not interested in peace and are determined to find a new home planet without any kind of interference. The Drules decide that war is the only answer and initiate a series of brutal attacks against Explorer and the forces of Galaxy Garrison. However Explorer has Voltron on their side and use him as an effective weapon to defend themselves against the attacks while they push for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The Drules insist on war, however there is one being, Drule Commander Hazar, who believes peace is the answer and begins to push for it. Over the years there have been differences of opinion about which Voltron (Lion or Vehicle) is better. However one thing many fans can agree on is that Voltron: Defender of the Universe is a thrill ride from start to finish. Form Blazing Sword! moreless

    Jem

    Follow
    ABC (ended 1988)
Showtime, Synergy. Those famous words were spoken by Jem throughout her three year run from 1985-1988. Jem was a beloved 80s rock cartoon that capitalized on the popularity of MTV that perfectly captured the decade's music, fashion and lingo. To this day, Jem is still considered a Truly Outrageous animated series that celebrates the power of love, friendship, ambition and rock 'n roll.

Jerrica Benton's father left her a very special gift after he died. That gift was Synergy, a holographic computer system that can create realistic holograms of virtually anything. Using special star-shaped earrings, Synergy transforms Jerrica into the glamorous pop singer, Jem. Along with Kimber, Aja and Shana whom are called the Holograms, they have many adventures that take them to places in the US, France, China and Italy.

Not far behind are their competition, the Misfits, a group led by Pizzazz with her friends Roxy and Stormer. Eventually both groups add a new member to their bands. Raya becomes the new drummer while Shana goes to guitar, and Jetta becomes the new saxophonist for the Misfits. With their additions, both Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits have many new adventures in Mexico, England, Shangri-La and across the U.S.

The Stingers, a new trio, come to the States and begin to shake things up between Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits. Riot, Rapture and Minx begin to cause problems, all on their own. All three groups have a unique music showcased in the musical videos that appear in every episode.

Jem originally premiered in 1985 in short segment cartoon inserts between two boys cartoons called Super Saturday/Sunday. Jem ran for three seasons from fall 1985 to spring 1988 with 65 total episodes. The show was then re-aired on the USA Network into early 1990.

All of the 1st issue dolls came with a flap that their character was on. Each doll came with their own musical instrument and Jem a microphone and Rio a brief case. Each doll, except Jem, had cassette tapes with songs on one side and the instrumental song on the other side. In 1986, the doll line came out with a 2nd generation of the Holograms and the Misfits, though Holograms came in different outfits. Added to the line up were Danse, Video, Raya, Synergy, Glitter 'N Gold Jem/Jerrica, Glitter 'N Gold Rio, Rock 'N Curl Jem, Flash 'N Sizzle Jem/Jerrica, Jetta and Clash. The 2nd and 3rd edition dolls came without a flap on them.
In 1987, the last of the line came out with only 3 of the Starlight girls: Ashley, Krissie and Banee. It was rumored that a Stingers doll line was suppose to come out also but nothing came of it. Along with a fashionable clothing line, play sets, vehicles, stages, coloring books, reading books, posters, games, lunch boxes, clothes, watches and make-up were also made available.

    CBS (ended 1990)
Muppet Babies was a very successful cartoon series in its own right. This show basically featured Jim Henson's famous Muppets as babies. Each episode, each of the Muppet Babies had adventures that their imaginations take them on. Often however, their imaginations would sometimes get the better of them, all for comic effect. Since Muppet Babies first hit the airwaves in 1984 it was instantly a favorite of its demographic. However, the show had appealed to viewers of all ages, child, teen, and adult. Let's face it, the 80's was a time of change, technology, and adventure. Muppet Babies was no expectation. In a decade when most television shows promoted a toy line or clothing this show had nothing at all to sell, no gimmick, just pure education. Now here is a little tidbit about the iconic Muppet Babies which was a very successful cartoon series in its own right. This show basically featured Jim Henson's famous Muppets as babies. Each episode, each of the Muppet Babies had adventures that their imaginations take them on. Often however, their imaginations would sometimes get the better of them, all for comic effect. The featured Muppets were Baby Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Rowlf, Animal, Scooter, and a new character, Skeeter, Scooter's look-alike sister. Occasionally they had visits from Baby Bunsen and Beaker, and even Statler and Waldorf came to visit, and later we see a recurring appearance by a "baby" version of Bean Bunny from Tale of the Bunny Picnic. The moral glue that held these Muppets together was Nanny (voiced by Barbara Billingsley of Leave it to Beaver fame), a character whose body was only shown from the waist down and we all remember the green striped socks. The one thing that made the Muppet Babies memorable were not the Muppets themselves, but the live action that was inter-cut with the cartoon action (consisting mostly of film and TV clips, etc). Also, the Muppet Babies were inspired by a small scene in the 1984 film, "The Muppets Take Manhattan". In 1986, the show was extended to an hour to accommodate another cartoon series Little Muppet Monsters, and then in 1987, new episodes were shown with repeats of previous Muppet Babies episodes. Little Muppet Monsters After the huge success of Muppet Babies CBS decided to expand the series by adding an extra half hour which was to be filled by a new show called "Little Muppet Monsters". The whole hour would be dubbed "Jim Henson's Muppet's, Babies and Monsters". The mixture of live action puppetry and animation featuring Muppet characters proved too much and the show was pulled by Jim Henson, after only two shows had aired. After the end credits and logos were shown, there was an ending segment in which eventually Animal shouts "Gooooooooo bye-bye!". Reruns were shown on Nickelodeon through the early to mid 1990's on Nick. Jr at 10:30 - 11:00 A.M. Muppet Babies taught lessons to children in many ways. The most powerful was through song. An example if from an episode in which Kermit does not know what he want to be when he grown up. ROWLF: Or you could be a singer at the top of the charts ALL: Of course you'd hire us to sing the background parts Be be be what you want to be Do do do what you want to do Be be be what you want to be It's up to you wo-wo-wo-woah Muppet Babies set a trend for other well known characters being features in animated pint-sized programs. Such shows include Baby Looney Tunes, Tiny Toon Adventures, The Flintstone Kids, The New Archies, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Yo, Yogi, and Tom and Jerry Kids. Six of these shows were made in between 1984 (Muppet Babies) to 1990. Characters: Kermit: He is none-other then a small green frog with a big imagination. He is the leader of the group and his best friend is Fozzie. Frequently he has his famous gulp when things are not going as planned. It usually goes something like this, "Oh boy..GULP!" Fozzie: Wacko, Wacko, Wacko! Is what Fozzie frequent expresses after one of his jokes. Most jokes he says are actually not funny, but he has high spirits of becoming a comedian. Miss Piggy: This little piglet has a huge crush on Kermit the frog. She expresses her passion and love for him in many ways; verbally or emotionally. Her dream is to be Mrs.Kermit (while Kermit actually does not have the same "feelings" for her that she does for him. Gonzo: A mystery is right here on what this little guy is. Some thing he is a cross-over between a monkey and alien, but who really knows!? He has a huge crush on Miss Piggy and hopes that he and her will have kids someday. Gonzo sometimes gets a little annoying to the group, but he finds some way to make it up to them! Rowlf: A musician in the making. You hardly even seen Rowlf without playing his white piano. He is more of they shy type, but finds it easy to express himself through songs. He is more of a loner, but he is a great friend to all the nursery children. Animal: Many ask what kind of animal he is, but no one knows. He is a loud non speaking Muppet who is very energetic. Many times you will see him hanging on the nursery chandler while playing hide and seek. At the end of many episode he will have the last word weather is is an action or a big hearty laugh. Nanny: What oh what would the nursery be without her supervision? She teaches lessons to the Muppet Babies through tough-love, but they always get the point. We never learned what she looked like beyond her neck. She is famous for her green and white striped socks that only the babies were able to see. Nanny is always there for the young children whether they need a lesson on life or a "boo-boo" to be kissed. Airing Information CBS: September 15, 1984 to September7, 1985 as Muppet Babies. There is no news about one, but if it were to be released it would be under Disney. Disney has already started releasing their animation library of television shows i.e Ducktales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, and Gargoyles. The problem is that Muppet Babies featured many clips from various movies which have an expensive price due to copy rights. If you like this show you will also like Baby Looney Tunes. "Go bye-bye! Lalalalala..." NOTE FROM EDITOR: I have had many individuals copy my summary for the show with out my permission! This is illegal and plagiarism. One example is www.dvdavenue.tv which is selling illegal bootleg copies of the show. If you see any other websites that have any portions or whole copies of this please PM me, jamminjake245. (ended 1986)
M.A.S.K., the cartoon, was brought to us by the people at DIC Enterprises, Inc. It aired between 1985 and 1988 as far as I know. I'm not too sure what time it was on at elsewhere, Recently, M.A.S.K. has been back on TV again in various places in Europe. If anyone has more precise information on M.A.S.K. airings in other places both past and present and any show info you have you can contribute it by going to the right page and pressing the button, please feel free to contribute what know. The cartoon focused mainly on the vehicles and characters from the original 1985 toy line. Later on, there were also some appearances from some 1986 vehicles. (Interestingly enough, I don't think they ever made a toy of Shark, a vehicle that was seen on the cartoon quite a bit...) The last season of the show apparently featured a racing theme to correspond with the racing series M.A.S.K. toys. I have seen most of these episodes however. From what I think, they were quite lame, mainly due to the fact that every single episode took place at a race track!
