    CBS (ended 2000)
Now and Again premiered on CBS television in September 1999 and focused on what would happen if a dead man's brain were removed and placed in a body with superhuman strength and mental powers. Michael Wiseman, now Michael Newman, was drafted to assist a government scientist on a variety of projects. Michael's refusal to give up his family from his "past life," however, proved more difficult to contend with than any in the government could ever have guessed.

Build a man with the speed of Michael Jordan, the strength of Superman and the grace of Fred Astaire. A guy who's going to look good, be young, be omnipotent. Wild, huh?

The Six Million Dollar Man for the new millennium maybe? It could have been. It featured a unique concept and a strong cast, many of which now appear in various popular series. but a massive audience never really caught on for the program. Though the program had a strong cult following and many efforts were made to revive it and have it released on DVD. As of 2006, however, no DVD set is available.

All said and done, this was a series that likely should have done better than it did. It was funny, with great action scenes and compelling emotional plots. It also featured a strong cliffhanger ending, one which there will likely never be a resolution to.

Where Have They Been and Where Are They Now?

Now and Again featured a strong cast that now appear in many hit television series.

Eric Close - Michael New/Wiseman - Close can now be seen as Agent Martin Fitzgerald in another CBS program, the hit procedural drama Without a Trace.

Dennis Haysbert - Dr. Theodore Morris - Haysbert enjoyed great success as President David Palmer on FOX's 24. He also appeared in a series of commercials for All State Insurance and now stars as Jonas Blane on CBS's The Unit.

Gerrit Graham - Roger Bender - Graham appeared as Q/Quinn in Star Trek: Voyager. After being largely inactive in television for a few years, he returned with a guest stint on Law and Order. He also recently performed the character Mr. John Willoughby in the film Stick it in Detroit.

Margaret Colin - Lisa Wiseman - Colin's most recent television work was a guest stint on Law and Order: Criminal Intent.

Heather Matarazzo - Heather Wiseman - Now starring on the series The Rules: A Lesbian Survival Guide. Also appeared as Lilly Moscovitz in both Princess Diaries films.

Many of the show staff have also moved on to other popular projects. For example, creator Glenn Gordon Caron went on to create the hit NBC drama Medium.moreless

The first movie ÒThe GatheringÓ (1993) is the pilot of the series and shows the arrival of the crew to the five-mile long space station. Babylon 5 is the neutral territory in outer space, a meeting place for the multitude of human and non-human inhabitants of the galaxy. This movie introduces the premise for Babylon 5, as well as introducing some, but not all, of the major characters, including Commander by Jeffrey Sinclair (Michael O'Hare) and Security Chief Michael Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle). The plot revolves around the attempted assassination of the Vorlorn ambassador Koch. The following five movies, all directed by show creator J. Michael Straczynski, include background stories of the Earth-Minbari war and adventures woven into the series chronology. The cartoon focused mainly on the vehicles and characters from the original 1985 toy line. Later on, there were also some appearances from some 1986 vehicles. (Interestingly enough, I don't think they ever made a toy of Shark, a vehicle that was seen on the cartoon quite a bit...) The last season of the show apparently featured a racing theme to correspond with the racing series M.A.S.K. toys. I have seen most of these episodes however. Diagnosed with a rare terminal illness, Yuji Kaido was put into cold-sleep in the hope that someday a cure may be found. He receives a rude awakening when he is revived in the middle of a military operation to evacuate him out of the cold-sleep facility. The group is attacked by a giant bug-like creature which wrenches two members into a grotesque cocoon before it is killed by the powersuit escort. It seems like a nightmare, but it's very much a reality for Yuji. He discovers that his abductors are humans under their skull-like masks and that his powersuited rescuer is a young woman named Marlene Angel. Marlene explains that it is now the year 2031, meaning that Yuji was in cold-sleep for 22 years. In that time, a genetic experiment went awry and created giant bug-like creatures called Blue which have taken over the world. The soldiers' mission is to recover human genes from before the Blue cataclysm, namely genes from sleepers like Yuji, and transport them up to a space station called Second Earth, where the fortunate humans retreated. Things, of course, don't go smoothly as planned. The Blue spring a surprise attack on the orbital launch base before the humans are able to board the shuttle. Marlene and Yuji are able to escape with two team members, Robert and Joey, but the rest of the people at the base aren't as fortunate. The survivors start on a long trek to another orbital launch base, battling Blue almost every step of the way. Unsatisfied with being luggage, Yuji takes up training from the soldiers so that he's able to contribute to their fight for survival. My Life as a Teenage Robot

My Life as a Teenage Robot

    Follow
    Nickelodeon (ended 2009)
While most kids think their own problems are the end of the world, there's one girl whose problems really are the end of the world. My Life as a Teenage Robot is the story of Jenny, a super-powered robot with a super-sensitive teenage heart. Her primary function is to protect the planet from certain disaster, but, like all teenagers, she has her own ideas about how she would like to live. Defending the Earth has become a mundane chore, and she would rather do more exciting things like go to high school and be allowed to drive the family car. My Life as a Teenage Robot, a spin-off from Nickelodeon's hit Oh Yeah! Cartoons (under the name My Neighbor Has A Teenage Robot), was created by Rob Renzetti and is executive produced by Renzetti and Fred Seibert. This show is the third of three spinoffs of Oh Yeah! Cartoons, the others being ChalkZone and Fairly OddParents. Characters: Global Robotic Response Unit XJ9, aka Jenny Wakeman - XJ9 is just like any other robot designed to defend the planet. She's powerful, confident, clever, brave...oh yeah, and she's gotta be home by 9! Jenny, as XJ9 likes to be called, is spunky, dramatic and prone to major mood swings (sound familiar?). She's also obsessed with pop stars, teen magazines and fitting in with the cool kids. Just like a regular teenager, right? Well, yeah...if regular teenagers were 6 feet tall and made of metal! XJ9's creator (a.k.a. mom) is constantly reminding her of her planetary responsibilities, but Jenny's tired of saving the world and just wants to hang out with her friends. What's a teenage robot to do? Bradley "Brad" Carbunkle - Brad is the boy next door. He's Jenny's closest neighbor and her best friend. Brad's not really interested in the stuff his friends at school are into, and wishes he were more like Jenny. He loves a good adventure and he's dying for a chance to explore the world outside high school. To Jenny, Brad's the reference point to all things "teenaged." He's the gatekeeper of "cool." Only Brad gets bored talking about all that lame teenager stuff and jumps at every chance to get in on Jenny's universe-saving superhero action. Guess the grass really IS greener on the other side of the fence... Tucker "Tuck" Carbunkle - Unlike his older brother Brad, Tuck is suspicious of the unknown and likes to be surrounded by familiar things and faces. He has a whole assortment of hidden fears and anxieties (let's just say he's not a fan of ferris wheels!) At first, Tuck was terrified of Jenny too, but after an unplanned tag-along on a meteor-blasting mission he's become her biggest fan. Well, next to Brad. Despite his fears, Tuck insists on going along on Jenny and Brad's adventures. Though being the typical trouble-making little brother he is, he usually ends up doing more damage than good. Mrs. Norene "Nora" Wakeman - Mrs. Wakeman had been struggling for years to rid the world of evil through the use of her inventions. And then, in a moment of brilliance, she created: XJ9 (a.k.a. Jenny). More mad scientist than understanding mom, Mrs. Wakeman can teach Jenny to battle almost anything that comes her way, but she's not so hot at talking about teenage stuff like clothes and boys. Mrs. Wakeman just doesn't get why Jenny would rather go to the fair than defend the Earth. But isn't having a mom who doesn't understand you, like, Rule #1 for being a teenager? Brittany and Tiffany Crust - Brit and Tiff sit securely on the top of the social hierarchy at school. Brit is the master of the putdown, and Tiff can intimidate anyone in school. All the world domination-plotting super-villians on the planet don't even come close to wielding the power these two cliqueish cousins hold in their hands, and no one is more aware of that than Jenny. But Jenny's arrival on the scene throws this tyranical twosome for a loop. Her physical power makes Tiff's intimidation impossible, and the curiosity she generates threatens Brit's center-of-attention status. Suddenly, Jenny is Brit and Tiff's public enemy number one! Unfortunately, the one thing Jenny's superpowers can't stop is her own desire to be popular! Sheldon Lee - Even though he knows he's pretty low down on the totem-poll of popularity, Sheldon is satisfied as a budding engineer and a comic book fan. And if that makes him a geek, so be it! He's quite content to spend his time perfecting mechanical projects and pouring over comics. Until he meets Jenny, that is. Jenny's the perfect combination of superhero and suped-up machine, and Sheldon falls for her-fast! He's constantly giving her gizmos and gadgets as gifts, but they never seem to do the trick. Alas, unfortunately for Sheldon, Jenny's fine with being his friend, but the thought of dating him hurts her brainwaves.moreless

    (ended 1996)
Saban's VR Troopers was the first official "sister series" to the most popular "action fighting kid show" at the time,Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Much like it, this was an Americanization of a Japanese special effects children's program by Toei Company LTD. The show focused on three young adults in their late teens, Ryan Steele, Kaitlin Star, and J.B. Reese, living in the West Coast town of Cross World City. They regularly attended and were teachers at "Tao's Dojo", a karate studio (Ryan was the most focused martial artist, J.B. was the computer wizard, while Kaitlin was a photographer/budding reporter for the local newspaper, the Underground Voice Daily). One day, Ryan's search for his long missing father led him and his two friends to a strange laboratory. Inside, a digitized head of Ryan's father's friend, Professor Hart, explaind the truth about his life's work, having developed extremely advanced virtual reality technology in secret. VR is in actuality a dimension existing alongside our own, and within it lie mutants and monsters bent on conquering both worlds. The main ruler of them is a creature known as Grimlord, who, unbeknowst to anyone on Earth, has a human identity as billionaire industrialist Karl Ziktor. As he tries to break down the barriers of the true reality to allow his armies easy passage from virtual world, it's now up to Ryan, Kaitlin, and J.B. to defend the planet from both sides of the dimensional barrier. Luckily, they've got assistance, in the form of armored bodies with incredible firepower. This included eventual additions to their arsneal, such as a Turbo Cycle, Techno Bazooka, and a flying, laser-blasting Skybase! Other regular characters on the show included Jeb, Ryan's hound dog, who, after an accident in Prof. Hart's lab, is now capable of speech (and sounds like Jack Nicholson); Woody Stocker, Kaitlin's wacky hat-loving boss at the Underground Voice Daily; Percy Rooney, Kaitlin's bumbling rival reporter at the paper (and nephew of the mayor); and Tao, the wise martial arts sensei who owns the dojo. Recurring villains include General Ivar, a vicious rocket-shaped monster with his own tank; Colonel Icebot, a cold blooded virtual menace; Decimator, a sword-wielding warrior; the Skugs, gold headed foot soldiers, and more throughout. During the second season, the show changed format very slightly. Ryan's father was finally found, though he wouldn't remain safe for long. With him, came an upgrade to Ryan's V.R. armor. Grimlord switched from working in a dungeon to a massive spacecraft, and added new Generals such as DoomMaster (and his Vixens), Oraclon, and Despera. The Skugs now had the ability to become more powerful in the form of Ultra-Skugs! During the first season, footage of V.R. Ryan came from the 1987 Toei Metal Hero series, "Chou Jinki Metarudaar" (Super Man Machine Metalder). During the second season, V.R. UPN (ended 2003)
You're travelling to another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound... but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land, whose boundaries are only that of the imagination... you're entering... the Twilight Zone... What began in 1959 with the great Rod Serling continues into the 21st century with a new host, Forest Whitaker, on a new network and told with completely new stories. Although there are minor similarities to older episodes of TZ, and a remake or two tossed in, these are still new ideas, told with a fresh and modern approach and delivered in that same chilling yet romantic style that still manages to captivate, compel and enchant us all... The show aired on UPN for one season (44 episodes) and it aired double pack episodes every week. The original Twilight Zone series aired from 1959 with host Rod Serling, and continued in 1985 with Charles Aidman and Robin Ward in The Twilight Zone (1985). This was the third screening of the show, but was cancelled after only one season.moreless

    (ended 1982)
This animated sci-fi retelling of the Greek poet Homer's epic poem, "The Odyssey", was a French-Japanese co-production originally produced in 1981, with animation from premier Japanese animation studio TMS (Tokyo Movie Shinsha). The series was originally envisaged as being 52 episodes long, but production difficulties cut back the number of episodes to 26. The show was written by the French writing team of Nina Wolmark and Jean Chalopin, before being animated by TMS in Japan. Many of the show's key Japanese staff came from the very popular (in France as well as Japan) anime, Rose Of Versailles (Lady Oscar), although the original director, Tadao Nagahama died after production of the first episode, leaving the remaining directors to carry on in a similar style. Some of the show's mechanical designs were also created by Shoji Kawamori and Studio Nue, the famed creators of Macross. Although the show's worldwide debut was on September 12 1981, on Luxembourg's RTL channel, France's FR 3 (the first 'official' home of the series) was not far behind in showing the series. In the mid-1980's the show was given a very respectable and mature English dub by DIC, courtesy of Jean Chalopin and the cast and crew at Multidub International in Montreal, Canada. In the USA, the show was shown in syndication from September 13 1986 as part of Kideo TV a DIC-produced package of animated series such as The Get-Along Gang, Popples and Rainbow Brite (which Ulysses later replaced). The show was also shown on the UK's BBC and Channel 4 networks. Ironically, for a show co-produced by the Japanese, Ulysses 31 wasn't shown on Japanese television until February 6 1988, when a run of twelve episodes was shown there under the title of Space Legend Ulysses 31.moreless

On the run, Zeta encounters Rosalie "Ro" Rowan, a street orphan who is wanted by the law herself. Initially fascinated by Zeta's criminal skills and the unlimited-cash untraceable credit card he has, she attaches herself to him. The two quickly form a real friendship, and set out across America to find both Roe's parents, and Zeta's creator who can prove that Zeta is acting of his own free will. Amazing Stories is an incredible collection of short tales from the creative mind of Steven Spielberg. Most episodes ran in a half-hour time slot, with only a few going longer than that. In spite of the brevity of the show, each episode packs in a well-developed story, along with some subtle commentaries on human nature and morality.moreless
