Episode Summary

Original air date: 7/22/2011 Urban Bush Women: We’re there as members of this acclaimed dance troupe rehearse for their appearance at the 11th annual Fort Greene Juneteenth Arts Festival. For their performance, troupe members work on “Batty Moves” and “Batty Raps.” “Batty,” if you don’t know, is a Caribbean word for the buttocks, or as some Brooklynites call it, your tush. Veronica Lawlor: Out on the streets near her studio, near the Brooklyn Navy Yard, this illustrator practices the art of “reportage drawing” – the pen-and-ink equivalent of a news photographer’s snapshot. Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed that Line to Freedom: A singer and a small orchestra gear up to perform excerpts from Nkeiru Okoye’s opera, about one of the most fearless figures in the struggle against slavery. Presented by Opera Grows in Brooklyn. Ellen Fisch, Photographer: As a girl, Ellen Fisch visited her grandparents’ Brooklyn home almost every week. We join her as she tours the neighborhood and takes beautiful black and white shots of the places she remembers from decades ago. From Brooklyn Independent Television's Caught In The Act.moreless
