Full Episode Summary

Original air date: 2/23/2011Punk Jews: How does a Jew keep tradition alive while exploring some wildly individualistic endeavors? Brooklyn-based filmmaker Jesse Zook Mann and producer Evan Kleinman are asking this question in a documentary series whose subjects range from the first African-American Orthodox Jewish hip-hop artist, Yitz Jordan (aka Y-Love), to fashion designer Levi Okunov, who uses Jewish symbolism in his contemporary women’s fashion. LIU Television Writers Studio: A Masters program in television writing? See what happens when screenwriter and Emmy winner Norman Steinberg (Blazing Saddles, The Cosby Show) teaches a class of MFA students the ins-and-outs of creating a pitch-perfect television series. We’re there at Steiner Studios as Steinberg’s students deal with the challenges of sharing the workload, and the credit. Barry Yanowitz: A stroll on the boardwalk with this photographer, who uses both the latest digital equipment and a Kodak Brownie from half a century ago. His images reflect his love of the Coney Island he grew up in, and his fascination with how the water and light reflect the way it’s changing.
