Full Episode Summary

Daddy Long Legs: Unlike the spider, Daddy Long Legs the musician (Brian Hurd: blues harp, steel guitar, kazoo, and vocals), has only two legs, but throw in guitarist Murat Akturk and percussionist Josh Styles, and the band – also called Daddy Long Legs – is back up to six. They say their aim is to destroy rock ‘n roll and rhythm & blues and rebuild them. You can see if they carry out that threat as they jam in Bushwick and perform at two Brooklyn venues. From Brooklyn Independent Television’s Caught in the Act: Art in Brooklyn, episode 49. Joel Holmes: A portrait of a jazz pianist as a young man: as he rehearses with a bassist and a drummer, Joel Holmes talks about how he got into jazz (girls played a part), who inspires him, and how it’s taken him around the world. From Brooklyn Independent Television’s Caught in the Act: Art in Brooklyn, episode 40. Call Matt Marks a classically-trained French horn player who also samples. Call him a ukulele-playing pop singer whose videos co-star his operatically-trained girlfriend. Speaking of opera, call him a composer of some of the hippest stuff that genre has seen. You’d be right on all counts. From Brooklyn Independent Television’s Caught in the Act: Art in Brooklyn, episode 36. House of Waters: An assortment of percussion instruments, the acoustic bass, and the hammered dulcimer – this is what Luke Notary, Moto Fukushima, and Max ZT play, respectively, in their world music band. They’ve studied and played all over, from Senegal to India to venues throughout NYC – and they also build odd little huts in a Brooklyn back yard. From Brooklyn Independent Television’s Caught in the Act: Art in Brooklyn, episode 45. From Brooklyn Independent Television's Caught In the Act.moreless
