The program's sponsor, Wheelen Drug Stores, was convinced after only two weeks of shows that Gleason was fantastic. Following this episode's telecast, they offered Gleason a two-year contract for $1500 a week. (That was the same salary TV's #1 star Milton Berle was making for Texaco Star Theater.) Gleason took the deal.
