CBS Cartoon Theater

Show Summary

In an attempt to capitalize on the success of ABC's Wonderful World Of Disney in prime time (it later moved to NBC), CBS, who a year earlier bought the Terrytoons cartoon library, started up CBS Cartoon Theater. Dick Van Dyke was the live-action host who introduced Terrytoons cartoons (starring Heckle and Jeckle, Dinky Duck, Little Roquefort and the Terry Bears) and interacted with the characters in the live bridge segments.

Viewers could tell the difference between the brilliantly animated Disney cartoons and the low-budget Terrytoons, and the show was canceled after thirteen weeks. However, Heckle and Jeckle would get their own show on Saturday mornings later.
