CBS' second live primetime fighting special took a dip in the ratings with the loss of superstar Kimbo Slice. That didn't stop EliteXC however from putting on a strong show.

Although I don't like female MMA fighters, the opening bout was okay and Christiane Cyborg should be a decent challenge for Gina Carano.

Jake Shields showed how dominant he can truly be by capturing the Welterweight title in just one round. Shields is without doubt a Top 10 fighter and hopefully he gets some real challengers in EliteXC to face him. Nick Diaz vs. Thomas Denny was a fun exciting battle. Denny gave the superior Diaz a challenge, but in the end it was one step closer to redemption and the EliteXC Lightweight title for the hometown hero.

The main event was another spectacular brawl from Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith. After their classic two months ago ended in controversy, EliteXC needed a good showing here and they got it. Both men hit hard and there were times when you thought that Smith could have won it. In the end the better fighter Robbie Lawler prevailed and remained champion.

For all the hate EliteXC takes, they put on another quality show. The production values are the best in the business, and announcers Gus Johnson, Mauro Ranallo and Frank Shamrock called the fights well and in an unbiased fashion, not like UFC commentators. The Frank Shamrock video explaining MMA terms was a good introductory for new fans so they could feel like they understand the sport. The promotion also has two of the best in the world on their roster in Robbie Lawler and Jake Shields, so the hate they receive for a lack of talented guys is unjust.

I hope more fans, both casual and hardcore MMA nuts tune in to the October show because anyone who doesn't watch this is truly missing out.moreless
