The villagers, concerned that Richard Naismith is bringing people into Century Falls, decide to call a gathering in the Church Hall. Tess, Ben and Carey hide inside, and watch on as the psychic ritual begins. The villager's minds merge into one, and this powerful new consciousness confirms that Elisabeth is indeed pregnant.
Later on, Ben takes Carey to the waterfall again, and summons the fire. Carey cautions him, but he insists that he is stronger than the 'decrepit villagers'. This time, in the fire appears a golden mask, the same one that Alice Harkness drew a picture of and that Richard Naismith stores in his cupboard. The figure of a beautiful woman, wearing the mask, soon emerges clearly from the flamesmoreless
