      • Tennyo The Tennyo is a female heavenly being, a concept which comes from the tradition of Buddhism. The concept is similar to the fairies or angels in Western Culture. In Japanese culture, Tennyo are generally depicted as extremely beautiful women. They are pictured in art wearing a feathered kimono known as a "hagoromo". Legends differ, but one legend states that a tennyo cannot fly without her hagoromo, and therefore can't return to heaven.
